Dual CF to IDE adapter quirks
Hello folks,
I'm hoping someone here might give me a little advice. Recently I bought some dual CF to IDE adapters on eBay, but I can't get it to work with two CF cards. Both cards show up nicely in HDToolBox, and they can be partitioned and named just like normal, bu no matter what I do, only the partitions of one or the other CF shows up on the workbench desktop. Only hardware option is to move a master/slave jumper, resulting in either one or the other showing up. I bought 3 dual CF adapters, and all show the same result with all my different CF cards, both on an A500 with an IDE bus, and in an A600, so I'm assuming this is not a hardware malfunction. What might I be doing wrong? The plan is to have the OS on a 128 MB card, and everything else on a 4GB card, which is split up into two 2 GB partitions. Here's the adapter Cheers, Mike |

Maybe the attached program can shed some light on what is going on.

You guys are aware that Master/Slave on default CF is a problem? Best option is to use Industrial cards...

What are "Industrial cards"?
I remember I also had this same problem. I had bought a dual CF card adapter and when I connected CF card to one slot worked, the other slot worked, but two card at the same time nothing. |

They are marked as "Industrial Grade"... so they work as fixed disk (or in TrueIDE mode)...

DJBase - Thanks for the tip - this sounds like the answer! Now to fid an Industrial grade card nice and big.
How have you got those two connected in that image? What connectors are you using? |

I'm using one of these along with 2 x 8GB Industrial CF cards. Will boot with a Microdrive as Master but will not show Slave even if Industrial class.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (price increase?) or same as I paid @ Amazon on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333984241...YAAOSwH5ZgjeUd The device lights up with Hidden LED's. Red for Power. Amber for each CF Card attached & a green one when any Drive Activity. With Pin 1 to the Front of the A1200, the Master is Topside along with the LED's. Screws into Hard Drive cradle as if a 2.5" Hard Drive. Should work in A600 in the same way as A1200. Appears to work Great. ![]() Last edited by Kin Hell; 20 June 2021 at 15:19. |
