I haven't researched this fully, but I get the impression that Gary will not select the ROM chip if it sees an address F00000-F7FFFF, which is what you would expect.
Instead the 'lower half' of the 1M may be mapped to E00000-E7FFFF.
Still no clue if this would really work though.

It may be something then that only an Amiga with Gayle can do (A600/A1200)

I have been able to make a 512kb 2.05 and modify it by removing the modules like carddisk.device and card.resource and replacing scsi.device with my ide.device - had some limited luck with that and also the 1MB ROM on the 1200 seems to work ok - I have made 2 as i have 4 - once with wb.device and icon.device from 3.1.4 and the other with the 3.2 ones and then a kick 3.1.4 - odd things happen with the wb and icon from 3.2 so i may try again with the 3.2 rom once remus and romsplit are updated to pick this up.

I am wondering too if anyone else has tried to make a 1MB ROM on an A500/500+

I have successfully created and used 1MB Kickstart ROMs on several different A500s.
The 1MB ROM plugs straight in to the A500+ with no modification.
A rev 6 A500 requires an extra address line wired in, in exactly the same way as shown here for an A2000: http://members.iinet.net.au/~davem2/...Kickstart.html

Rev 5 A500s require further modification, but it isn't too hard to do.

I am using remus and i created my rom using kickstart 3.1.4 for A500 and the 1MB file for the standard rom 512k and then for the 512k extended i put in the header file which starts with E and then the files i wanted and then used the arexx script to put them together and byteswap (I tried without byteswap too just in case)
Is this the correct method as i was following the remus instructions
The only other thing i can now think of is that my 3.1.4 rom which i extracted from a real rom is already byteswapped so i may have half of the chip byteswapped and the other half not?
