HD to Floppy block 880 error, HELP.
Hi all amigans, got me a real headache here.
Let's start with my setup: A500 plus KS3.1 with 2MB chip, Kipper2k A508IDE, Indivision ECS, CF-card partitions are 500MB PFS3 for system and ~14GB PFS3 for work. Now my problem. Booted from CF, filsystem PFS3, both ClassicWB and clean WB3.1 install: When I try to copy files with (Dopus, filemaster or diskmaster) to floppy I get a read error at block 880 and the disk need to be formated again. Booted from CF, filsystem FFS, clean WB3.1 install Same error again. Booted from floppy Workbench 1.3.3, KS3.1 for access to CF: No problem at all, I can copy files w/o any errors. Never had any problems before. Done a few reinstall as mentioned above with different filesystems. Not experienced enough to solve this on my own. What am I doing wrong? Thanks |

Well.... after the 2nd (or third) time of reinstalling CWB on PSF3 everything works fine, will do some more testing later on.

If you format your disks on your 1.3 setup (OFS - Old File System), then those disks should also be compatible with your 3.1 setup. Under Release 2 and above (2.x-3.x), you would have to make sure you do not select such options as FFS (Fast File System), Directory Caching (DC) or International Mode, as these are not compatible with floppy disks under 1.3.
Perhaps you have been using a disk under 1.3 that wasn't fully compatible with 1.3 due to one of the above options and when you tried to use it on 3.1 again it wasn't happy about it? That's just a guess mind you. |

paul1981: thanks, but that wasn't the case.
After lots of testing everything is back to normal. Using latest PFS3. |

Hello, more info. Did get that problem back efter a few days.
I notised that I forgot to mention I'm using a modded PC floppydrive (Sony MPF920-E). Yesterday I dug out my old original floppydrive (Chinon FB-354). So I cleaned it, relubed and cleaned the heads. Put some contact-cleaner in switch that detects floppy presence and whrite protection. And walla, now everything is working. Been copying and moving files since yesterday without any issues. Maybe the modded drive was faulty. Cheers |
