Faulty AmigaKit RGB-to-SCART cable

Hello, I have an Amiga RGB-to-SCART cable that I purchased from AmigaKit but the cable is not working with any SCART TV ports that work with another SCART cable (Sony PS1) that I have tested. I carefully opened up the DSUB and SCART housing to check for faulty connections but fortunately the solder looks intact. I have mapped the DSUB to SCART connections and noted a couple of differences to a reference schematic that I found on this forum:

Amiga 23-pin DSUB --------------- SCART connector
Pin 3 (Red video) --------------- Pin 15 (Red video)
Pin 4 (Green video) ------------- Pin 11 (Green video)
Pin 5 (Blue video) -------------- Pin 7 (Blue video)
Pin 11 (Horizontal Sync)**------- Pin 20 (Composite video)
Pin 16 (Video GND) -------------- Pin 5 (Video GND)
Pin 17 (Video GND) -------------- Pin 9 (Video GND)
Pin 18 (Video GND) connected to RCA Audio GND for both left and right channels
Pin 19 (Composite Video GND) ---- Pin 4 (Audio GND)
Pin 20 (Video GND) -------------- Pin 13 (Video GND)
Pin 22 (+12V) ------------------- Pin 8 (SWITCH)
Pin 23 (+5V) -------------------- Pin 16 (RGB Mode)

Differences to reference schematic:
  • DSUB Pin 10 (Composite Sync) not connected to SCART Pin 20 (Composite video) **Could this be the main problem?
  • DSUB Pin 19 (Composite Video GND) not connected to SCART Pin 17 (Composite Video GND)
  • DSUB Pin 18 (Video GND) connected to RCA Audio GND for both left and right
  • SCART Pin 4 (Audio GND) connected to DSUB Pin 19 (Composite Video GND) rather than RCA Audio GND
Any suggestions are welcomed.

Thank you
Pierre

These cables are made by hand. I suspect they accidentally wired the wrong pin (pin 11 instead of pin 10).

It won't work wired to pin 11 HSync.

Very bad practice they didn't test it. Maybe they bought them in?

Send it back if you're unable to rewire yourself. Insist they pay postage both ways.

Which GND is connected to which GND is less important but still bad practice.

Hello Alex,
Thank you for the advice. I will resolder Pin 11 to Pin 10.
Regards
Pierre

Not to go into the pin arrangement, but the part I quoted doesn't really mean much. I have a quirky TV (Sony) that will display a beautiful PS1 picture via SCART, but only a black and white Amiga picture via any SCART cable (or Amiga model). So it's a TV thing, not a cable thing.

It may or may not be the case with your setup. Just wanted to put the info out

I'm sure that will fix it.

I tried another Amiga RGB-to-SCART cable and that worked so it is definitely a cable problem.
