A-500 only works with Systemfriendly Software
Hello there ; get this .
I got myself a nice A-500 Rev8a.1 (512kb) , with a Protein Card from Botfixer. The Seller told me the thing would work. (of course he would  )and would you know... it dosent.  . Well, it does work with "systemfriendly stuff". Workbench, even systemfriendly/multitasking friendly games like Fate of Atlantis. Everything that "bangs the hardware" like loading Demos, Whdload, Trackloader Floppydisks, basicly everything that turns the system OS off will end in a black Screen and a Freeze on the Amiga500  Never seen anything like this .... What is going on here ?  any ideas guys, would be so sweet to know  Thank you

I found the Solution. There was a Jumper on the "Protein Card from Botfixer" that ran a 68010 at 14 Mhz.
When i removed that jumper and go down to 7Mhz everything works just fine. Thats good enough and with the help of PFS3_AIO (Filesystem) and the Icon.Library from PerterK the 3.1 OS is pretty nice overall. Thanks guys |

That's weird. Most non-systemfriendly stuff should still run okay on a 14Mhz 68010, or run but break in weird ways. Only the oldest stuff would just flat-out crash.

My guess is that the 14MHz mode is messing with the E-clock. That's produced by the CPU and is used for peripheral timing for the CIAs etc. I believe some copy protection schemes and track loaders do tricks that depend on this clock being the original speed, which causes them to fail when it's not correct.
