@whaka - interesting to hear you’ve had Deneb issues. Did grounding the Deneb solve the problem?

I've just double-checked the PSU I have set up here and it does indeed connect the shield to mains earth. But there are some that don't as well, and some countries where grounding is optional, so it really shouldn't be a requirement.

amiga 2000/3000/4000 really officially need earthing if you don't want to face those kind of (i admit, not so frequent) leaking current issue.
and in my case, i have my deneb, and a RR on x-surf in 2 3000. but i agree, in most case it's not a real problem to work without. commodre really strongly recommended to use earthing. they don't put it by pleasure or only to be compliant with some countries. |

@Whaka
Thanks for the reply... that's what I needed to know. I have an A2000 with RR & X-Surf also. Did you run a ground wire over to the X-Surf or RR from the chassis? If so, where did you connect to either board? Thanks. |

no, i didn't get the wire with the x-surf version.
and nothing about this is mentionned in the documentation. it's probably not needed because earthing is made thru the amiga pcb. but of course, your amiga need to be connected on a earthed outlet. for the moment, as my amiga are not connected to earth, i didn't tried external powered devices with the RR, and now i'm really too afraid from what i read here |

I really do believe that its a flaw in the design of the device - there are too many case's of this for user error and too many case's for a bad batch I think. A shame becasue other than this its an awesome device.

It makes me think there is a lack of Current sense / limiting on the Rapid. Insert a device, the device charges its power capacitors, and there is a chance of a over voltage / Over current in a "Rush" to the capacitor.
The rest is Magic smoke history. Is the Rapid listed as hot swap capable ? Perhaps the creator cheaped out on the Sense / Limit circuit. |

Ah yes, the over-current factor! You know what else seems to suffer from the same syndrome? Those boards in 3.5" FF external HDD enclosures that feature a USB like hub! I've had at least 4 or 5 of those blow out which renders the enclosure worthless. Two of them were facsimiles of Mac Mini's that looked real nice sitting under the MM.
Since reading this post originally, I stopped hot plug/swap of all USB sticks on my RR. Which is piggy-backed on my X-Surf. |

EDIT: Never mind--works again; not sure why/what happened, but to be on the safe side, will only plug/unplug devices when the power is off.
My Amiga 3000's RapidRoad just recently developed an issue--Poseidon recognizes my flash drive just fine, but for some reason, AmigaOS [sort of] doesn't, so no device is effectively mounted and no icon shows on Workbench. I say "sort of" doesn't, as I thought it was just that UMSD: wasn't being mounted, but when double-clicking it again, Workbench says "Device has already been mounted". Has anyone else run into this issue with their RapidRoad? Any/all ideas are welcome; I've never had a problem with it until now. I even have it connected to my A3000's power supply (as recommended in the RapidRoad docs), so that shouldn't be an issue..? Last edited by gdonner; 21 July 2020 at 05:46. |

are you considering leakage current issues as magic smoke history, which can't kill nothing and don't exist ? really ?
