1. Shadow of the Beast II
2. Super Hang-on 3. Jaguar XJ220 4. Theme Park 5. Buggy Boy We could score SotB II like we did SotB with landmarks, but we would have to caveat a lot of landmarks by insisting a player had particular items in their possession when reaching them. Alternatively, we could score it by giving a value to each item the player is in possession of at the time of death? For example something like: Potion: +5 points (each) Key (Any): +5 points Axe: +5 points Ale: +10 points Horn: +10 points Parchment: +15 points Ring: +15 points Old Man's Weapon: +40 points Completion: +100 points, with ties broken by visually examining how much health is remaining. Thanks for the input. I'll cross-check Laffer's playthrough with your list tomorrow and then define the scoring method for our league.

I think this might be a harder game to score than SotB as that game had hit points you could use to break ties (I have zero ideas how to score SotB III btw). A weakness of my method is that we will have a lot of ties. Maybe combining it with some sort of landmark system might work. If we can find a way to quantify remaining health when the screenshot was taken, that would also help differentiate the scores. Maybe if three players have the same items and hit the same landmark, even if we cannot quantify their remaning health, we can visually see that player A has more health than player B, who himself has more than player C, then player A would get an extra 0.3 points, player B gets 0.2 points and player C 0.1 points? |

Yes, we should definitely add health to the score this way.

Beast II has an inbuilt scoring system. It's not suited for competition because there are loads of respawning enemies - but we can use it lowball style to avoid too many ties:
Let's just subtract the game score from the score that you obtain from items. So in-game is the negative score. The positive score comes from items (and game completion) - as suggested by capehorn because it's really feasible. After looking at the playthrough I reassessed their values: Coin: 1,000 pts each (press S to show coins and score) Potion: 10,000 pts Key (Any): 15,000 pts Axe: 15,000 points Ale: 50,000 points Horn: 50,000 points (consolation for paying the 36 coins) Parchment: 25,000 points Ring: 100,000 points (the Ale-"upgrade") Magic Weapon: 200,000 points (Replacement for Ring & Parchment) Completion (Zelek defeated): additional 250,000 points (consolation for giving up the horn) Before taking a screenshot press S to show coins and (negative) score and then HELP (Page Down for WinUAE users) to pause the game. DELETE unpauses. Example: You defeat Zelek, have the magic weapon and one potion in possession, 0 coins and an in-game score of 2,050. => 250,000 + 200,000 + 10,000 + 0 - 2,050 = 457,950 total score @capehorn: Please review and judge if this works. |

Thanks John, I'll have a good look at this later tonight. Coins might be a very good idea as they are crucial game items.

Yeah that could prevent people from skipping certain parts in order to get a higher score.

You just have to press S and then HELP to take a screenshot. We can calculate the score for you!

Okay, after getting feedback from capehorn we decided to not use the ingame score at all but rather examine the remaining health to break ties.
When the health isn't clearly different then it's a tie. 3 more changes: 1. There are some issues with keys so they won't be worth any points! 2. After you use the axe and are inside the goblin fortress you'll keep its 15k-bonus until you pick up the ring. 3. Once you pick up the horn your coins won't count anymore. Coin: 1,000 pts each (press S to show coins and score) Potion: 10,000 pts Key (Any): 0 pts Axe or being inside the Goblin Fortress until you pick up the ring: 15,000 points Ale: 50,000 points Horn: 50,000 points (coins will be worthless once you pick this up!) Parchment: 25,000 points Ring: 100,000 points (the Ale-"upgrade") Magic Weapon: 200,000 points (Replacement for Ring & Parchment) Completion (Zelek defeated): additional 250,000 points (consolation for giving up the horn) Before taking a screenshot press S to show coins and (negative) score and then HELP (Page Down for WinUAE users) to pause the game. DELETE unpauses. Example: You defeat Zelek, have the magic weapon, one potion in possession and 0 coins left. => 250,000 + 200,000 + 10,000 + 0 = 460,000 total score |
