Obliterator help
Hello fellow Amiga gamers, tried searching for it but couldn't find anything on the subject. How do you play Obliterator?
I can get the guy to walk around pick up clips, shoot and go up and down elevators but there kinda isn't a point to it. According to the story you're supposed to blow up the ship you're on but I can't seem to figure it out how to do that puls the majority of places finish in dead ends what am I missing? This game floored me way back when it came out in 1988 when you saw the intro and heard the music you just couldn't believe it you were playing a game especially being only 6 and having messed with a C64 and a spectrum b4. Now that I'm coordinated enough to tackle the Psygnosis icon interface (years of Windows will do that) I really want to beat this masterpiece. Thanks for the help |

Does anyone know how/where to save the game?

This assumes WinUAE and IPF . Make sure write protect is off. One game is saved to game disk ( the part saved is created in SaveImages folder). No idea if this will work on a cracked disk. The picture is loading a save from 2007. Press F2 brings up the right hand picture. So make for a shield regenerator booth and press F2.
EDIT: A short refresher course revealed contact with battle shield component (square icon) also allows saving. Perhaps others do as well? Last edited by clenched; 21 October 2018 at 10:09. Reason: correction; new info |

Thanks clenched.
(One reason I was confused was that the map included on the LSD docs disk and with the WHDLoad slaves is actually wrong, hopefully that map will be fixed or removed in the future.) |

Oh. I thought maybe a savegame editor was in the works. May as well answer op's question anyway. On Sprint doc disk #3 is diagram showing 5 components to be removed and/or installed. Technically the game is won when last component is installed. To get out alive and see spaceship cut scene the player must escape before time runs out.

Yes, a savegame editor is indeed in the works, probably will be ready in the next few days...

Long time I did finish this game. I think I still have the box. Will check for the manual.

@malko:
Thanks, but I found the manual is already available here: http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari...tor_10111.html (it is the same manual for both systems). There was nothing about saving the game in it which was why I asked here. @clenched: Yes, I can confirm that the engine component (X shape) does as well. OK, finished the Obliterator editor, you can get it here: http://amigan.1emu.net/releases/#mce
Ideally it would also allow editing your location and shield power, but I didn't find where those are encoded yet, so those are left for a future version. Last edited by Minuous; 22 October 2018 at 14:32. |

Here are some odds and ends picked up from a replay. This time [cr Melnok] disk was used. Saving appears to work. WinUAE warns of non-standard format then writes some tracks. Load restores correct position, weapons, components and ammo count.
The strategy is get engine component last since it is nearest to where shuttle component is to be installed. When engine component is removed an alarming thing happens. The score starts dropping by 40pts/sec. On old SPS savestate it is only dropping by 10pts/sec. It turns out the components deduct different amounts of points per second. Value of last component picked up is the one that counts. Shuttle & Data pack -10 Weapons -20 Shield -30 Engine -40 So this strategy was a flop. Earth is saved but too short on time to escape without running up a higher score first. Also saving at component locations is not a big deal. The shield isn't recharged. Only one save can ever be made from this location. Notice shield component at door #10. It is the only one like it in the game. It has a front and back side. That seems odd to go to that extra effort unless a purpose is served. Shuttle component is also plotted twice but that refers to its removal and insertion points. |

Thanks, do you mind if I add this info to the cheats document at my site? |

EDIT: Better disregard anything said about saving to cracked disk. The [cr Melnok] comes with a save already made. Load this and all components are collected. The last being engine component. Here the -40 pts can be seen without actually playing. No matter where another save was attempted this is the game that was always reloaded. So I must have mixed up something along the way.
