Dual connection with standard floppy and gotek
Hi guys,
I am trying to find a way to connect both the DF0 from my 1200 and the gotek, without have to disconnect one and connect the other. I am aware that I can't have both on at the same time, so I was wondering if using a Y floppy cable for both, and a switch for the power cable would be enough. In this way, I can route power to the floppy drive or the gotek before turn on the amiga, and that will set which drive is used basically. Did anyone tried this? I was looking for a better solution but it seems that the only thing I can find with the floppy connector are the Y cables. |

You can connect your gotek to the external disk port, then put in a boot selector on the cia chip. You’ll then have the internal floppy as df0 and the gotek as df1, flip the switch and the gotek becomes df0. I’ve had this setup for years and it’s worked brilliantly

Hi,
Here is a guide: https://www.ikod.se/amiga-1200-gotek/ It seems this guy has run power to both floppy and Gotek, but made a switch on floppy cable 10 (disc select). I have a plan to try the same on my Amiga 600, just waiting for some parts. Luckily i found a floppy cable with 3 connectors in an old computer I had! I was wondering if I should make a switch on the power as well, but seems this is not needed.. ref the above guide and another one I read but can`t recall where. This is just switching the DF0; so you cannot use the other unit as DF1. But DF0 switching is good enough for me. Last edited by Reb; 31 January 2018 at 10:04. |

Thanks for the reply.
The problem is that I don't want to use it as external drive nor modify the IC; all that I am trying to do is a Y connection so I can switch between the 2; which means no changes to the board itself. I think that if it was possible to get wiring done on the physical cable and power, it is only a matter of adding a switch to figure out which drive does turn on at boot. Although being flat cable, it is not that simple for me to make a "breakout". I have to try with some old power and floppy cable to solder each wire by hand, and see if the Amiga complain |
