X-Surf-100 doesn't work in A2000

Hi,

I have an A2000 with just a 68000 CPU and a Nexus SCSI controller and HD. I have recently installed an X-Surf 100 network card to it but so far I could not make it work with AmiTCP. I know how to configure AmiTCP (I am a network guy) and I am sure it is configured properly. I am using OS3.1 freshly installed and AMiTCP 4.0 demo. When I start the network ping doesn't work to any of the addresses. Loopback ping of course works. I have done a wireshark sniffing and have seen that ICMP echo requests are correctly going out and answer comes back but Amiga doesn't do anything with it. Interestingly ARP Broadcast requests from Xsurf have a bad Ethernet frame checksum (it uses 0 so doesn't fill in FCS). Although FCS is incorrect ARP replies are working. When I do a telnet to a Cisco device I get the connected message and then telnet freezes.
It seems like the Amiga doesn't handle the answer packets at all.
Has anyone done tests with a 68000 CPU A2000 and X-Surf 100? My xsurf driver is the latest v1.11.

Some more info:
I have A2000 rev6.2, Nexus SCSI controller with 8MB RAM. I have tried xsurf without the Nexus using a network boot disk but same behavior. I have tried xsurf with Z2 jumper on or off without luck.
I am using static IP address, don't use Individual Computer's AmiTCP.config file (although tried that too), modified db/interfaces and bin/startnet files to properly set xsurf config. Rest configuration is done via AMiTCP install. Xsurftest is successful if I run it before AmiTCP start.

My feeling is that the 68000 driver doesn't work at all.

Does at all anyone use Xsurf 100 with a 68000 CPU?

Thanks
Hege

I know that the driver didn't work with 68000 when it first came out, but I don't know if it's been fixed since.

I tried to run the XS100 when it first came out on 68000 with similar result as yourself. Filed a report which Jens accepted. He told me the 68000 version was only compiled but never tested simply because lacking of hardware.

One year later he sent me a fixed version and asked me to verify it which I haven't done yet, as I found another way around while he was hard-working. This was 12'th of October 2014.

As I never confirmed the fix, I am not sure it was ever released. Is 1.11 later or earlier than the date mentioned above? If you want to, I can send you the files Jens sent me. Please just give me your email address in that case.

Thank you all!
First my feeling was that it is conflicting with the Nexus but after several tests I know that it is not. I am confident that this v1.11 driver doesn't work with 68000 CPU. It can send packets but don't handle the answer at all.
I have sent a PM to you Johey because the driver I am using is the one from icomp wiki and dated to september 16th, 2013. I would like to test your one.
Unfortunately at the moment I don't have any CPU cards for the A2000 because I was waiting for the ACA2000 but my feeling is that it will never come out. My next option is the Vampire 500 v2+ which would not be a bad choice as I love FPGAs.

There are some similar problems when attempting to use x-surf-100.device in MorphOS 1.4.5 (with Phase5 PPC accelerator). You can bring up the interface, but something related to setting up the interrupt triggers a hit caught by the kernel.

If someone is interested in more information, there are much more details in a thread I started a long time ago over at MorphZone.

Would be most interesting if I also could try this version and see if it would make a difference in MorphOS.

Ok, I upload the files in a tar.gz archive (sorry, no lha on this computer). I include the instructions from Jens' e-mail pasted into a readme.txt.

Thank you very much johey!

Unfortunately, it didn't help so there is something else that goes wrong on MorphOS. Not unexpected, was a longshot after all.

Finally I have tested this driver provided by johey! It is version 1.14.
The good news is that it finally works! The bad news is that although the _a000 version supposed to be the faster one with AmiTCP it crashes when I try to telnet. It causes Guru (80000004) which I suspect some kind of memory allocation failure. The other one however works and I could download files with it via ncftp. I just got one guru with smbfs but I suspect that was caused by smbfs.
Thanks Johey! I think Jens should make this version available on icomp wiki!

Make sure you use a large stack for smbfs. I use 65536 which is probably way too much, but works fine.

Good to know. I sent him an email but didn't get any reply. Oh well, I've got rid of my X-Surf-100 now anyway.
