Why would I prefer people not downloading and trying AKReal?

I don't mind paying for good work, but I would like to try it without being guilt-tripped about not paying but is that no longer possible? I wasn't able to make the previous version work very well on my Vampire machines so will not consider paying for something that I might not use.

It just suggests paying for it, like donationware. So if you use it and can get it working, then you can go back and "buy" it. |

That is what I mean by 'guilt-tripping'. Either charge for it or not. A proper free download with a donation button next to it is also fine, but I'm not going to try this one as long as it is set up to make you feel bad if you want to try it out without paying.

Demolition I can understand you, but I'm very happy that I'm finally able to release the update.
Do not feel bad at all, there is no reason and you should know me by now. If you have liked what you've seen before, please try it and you make me a favour because if you and others do not try it then it can be that I won't find any place to share any update at all. The process to download it is now also a track to see the interest in this project, but the next Live updates will be automatic again. Last edited by Retrofan; 03 November 2022 at 22:58. |

It's nothing personal, but it is just a strategy that I will not support in any way. A few charity organisations have also been put on my do-not-support list because they used similar methods by calling me and trying to guilt me into supporting them in some way. I almost stopped my existing monthly donation to an otherwise noble organization because they called me and tried to guilt me into donating even more money..
But I will look forward to seeing Youtube demos of this new version so I can evaluate whether it is something I have to try. |

Well, I told them I would stop supporting them if they continued harassing me, and I haven't heard from them since.
Anyway, I will not comment more on this to avoid this thread going too far off-track. It should focus on AKReal and the effort that has been put into it by Retrofan. I would love to hear some feedback from someone who tried this new version. |

I've made a video of poor quality (like all the ones I make) and if you like it you will have to try it . I will post it in the support thread in a couple of hours when it is uploaded to the tube. I don't show everything, just some things. |

Where did the PAL screenmodes go?
I installed to test in WinUAE by setting up an HDF.
Please can somebody tell me where the ususal PAL screen modes have gone; all I see is CGXPAL and CGXPALSUPERPLUS screenmodes.... I even turned off WinUAE's graphics card emulation, but still no luck with the PAL modes showing up (see 2nd screenshot) Any help would be appreciated. Thank you guys, and thank you Retrofan |

CGX is CyberGraphics. It has nothing to do with WinUAE. CGXPAL just replaces the old PAL mode and just think of them as the same, except that CGXPAL is faster in many ways than regular PAL. Why do you specifically want the old PAL mode to appear?

Yes, that's right. But questions like this must be in the support thread.
Yes, Pal is now CGXPal. It means that it is somehow working now as a graphic card in the sense that it won't use (or use less) chip mem. Also, as you use WinUAE and you have ram enough, select a "decent" screenmode like SuperPlus there, 800x600. You can use that same mode if you've got an Indi in a real miggy. |

AKReal != AmiKit
AKReal is originally based on AmiKit, but since AmiKit contains all the bells and whistles it is too much to handle for any real Amiga, so it is pretty much limited to be run inside an emulator. AKReal is a spin-off project which contains some of the elements and ideas from AmiKit but optimized so it can actually be used on a real Amiga, hence the name AmiKit Real. I am sure that as time has passed and several versions gone by, AmiKit and AKReal have separated further from each other to find their own proper space. |
