Anyone remember the 'become a playable Heimdall character' competition?
You could win the chance to have your face digitised and inserted into the game as one of the 30 selectable characters.
Do you know where it was advertised? I can't find any reference to it in the reviews or previews I've read, but it definitely happened because I've seen the winning entrant and the devs have confirmed it. Core did the same with Corporation and that was mentioned in a couple of Amiga mags. |

Wasn't it possible to unlock some digitized portrait-style characters for the party? I think they had the best stats or something, and you had to enter a cheat code.

I haven't heard of that personally, but wouldn't discount it either.

This rings a faint bell to me but I could be imagining it . Maybe The One or CU Amiga? Those were the mags I usually had.

It's funny how a few mags show a screen grab of the character menu with a placeholder graphic for the 'competition winner', yet don't actually explain the significance.

Hrmm, there is a three part preview in The One. At the end of the third part they promise an exclusive demo level and a competition in the April 94 issue. There is a demo but I don't see the competition mentioned again.

I'm not sure what went on there, but that relates to the sequel, which I may look into in the future. For now my retrospective will only focus on the first game. Thanks for checking though.

Haha, seems that I cannot read! I thought you were talking about Heimdall 2.

No way, it's really you, I've found you... or you've found me rather. Thanks for sharing that, that's brilliant. Pretty shoddy treatment from Core I have to say. Very bad publicity for them too, but then people didn't have the same platform to complain back then as we do now. Did you just have to submit your pic and your name was pulled out of the hat at random?
I just wish I'd had your quote in time for my article. I included some pics of your character, but never did find the original competition. Maybe it was in a lesser known, obscure mag or even some trade publication that has never been scanned and archived. |

Yes it's really me! Don't know why but spur of the moment thought I'd google to see if I could find a screenshot of me in the game and came across this thread and the following site:
http://www.everythingamiga.com/2017/...-just-for.html I can't remember the publication I entered it from but I think it was Ace. Could be wrong though. Memory fading from 25 years ago!! Had to send a passport photograph in an envelope. Suppose its an obscure claim to fame! At least I have proof now to prove to people I didn't make it up. lol |

Well I'm glad you did. This is precisely why the internet needed to be invented.
Now you've narrowed down the magazine I'll have to go through my copies again and see if I can find the original pitch. |

Ha! That's it, the holy chalice. Nice work, thanks. We didn't imagine it after all.
The mag hasn't been OCR'd or linked in the HOL previews which explains why I struggled so much to find it. That's my excuse anyway, and I'm sticking to it. |
