Speed problems with Windows 10
I know this is probably because Windows 10 s a piece of shit, because this was working great when running Windows 8.1, but I thought I could be of help in maybe trying to figure out what is going on.
I have an Atom based tablet that was VERY happy to run most Amiga stuff just fine, but now on Windows 10 I tried it and it's slow as hell. Sound skipping like crazy and whole thing running at what seems like 2FPS. Is there any way I can somehow diagnose this in hopes I Can pinpoint what is ruining the performance? As I said, the exact same machine ran fine with Windows 8.1. I tried first the 3.1 stable release and then a 3.2.x series beta (6 I think) so again pretty sure it isn't WinUAE's fault. |

I can't offer any suggestions, but can say its not usual.
Running Windows10 virtualized on my quad core baytrail Android tablet Winuae runs fine, and that's with the additional overhead of a virtualizer. |

Have the slowdowns appeared only in WinUAE?
If so, it might be a bug and Toni might add a workaround for it. Better test this with something else (another emulator?) and if it only happens in WinUAE you can report this in its bug section ![]() |

Bad/incompatible drivers. Guaranteed. Nothing to do with Windows 10 or WinUAE directly. (Same thing happens every time new Windows version appears, it is practically always caused by buggy drivers.)
But winuaelog.txt is missing too. EDIT: One known slowdown (which already happened with 8.x too with some drivers): make sure Direct3D is enabled. DirectDraw is obsolete, support is getting worse and worse. Last edited by Toni Wilen; 11 August 2015 at 12:58. |

Confirmed. It is display driver issue. Switching to DirectDraw (!) fixes it...

Thanks for that Toni, I wasn't able to test more on my own after you posted. I am also getting problems with VICE on the Win10 setup, probably because of the same issue (no display at all!)
[edit] forget it, found the option to change to DirectDraw [edit 2] incredible, that did it! So how impacted/poor is the performance with DirectDraw? It's running REALLY smooth on my end now! |

None, I guess. Problems are always driver+manufacurer+windows specific, in my example speed was nearly as slow in DirectDraw as was in this case in Direct3D..

It's running great, testing Brian the Lion AGA and I get pretty solid (non cycle exact) performance.
I can't see how well though because the On-screen display doesn't seem to work with DirectDraw (is this a bug or just an impossibility?). No matter how many times I turn it off it goes back off. [edit] on screen display is working now but I feel like it makes everything a bit slower so I kept it off. Last edited by Amiga1992; 14 August 2015 at 00:02. |
