Blizzard 1220/4 battery
Hi guys 'n' gals(?)!
I'm currently trying to get my 1200 modding over and done with, and I hope to properly close the Amiga next weekend(for the fist time in over a year). Sitting here wating for the last components to properly mount my floppy emulator. But since the computer is at the work table (aka dinner table, which the missus keeps pointing out) I decided to remove the battery from the ol' Blizzard 1220 just in case after reading some stories about leakage... Do I need to do anything else after removing the battery? Removed it successfully, but afterwards I started thinking if there was anything else I should do Now to think about how to mount the CF HD in a nice way so I can swap CF without opening the miggy... Cheers in advance! //Nicklas |

Wasn't it equipped with a coin battery? (so no charging, no leaks)...

Coin wasn't working. But can I use the card after just removing the battery, or do I need to do anything else?

No, you just lose keeping time during power off.

roy the coin battery´s are no rechargeable what happens is when the computer is turned of ram clock board or just clock board powers clock circuit, when it is on switches back to psu to power clock chip just like a regular pc i used a coin battery socket on mine mttec and was excellent, although there are 2 types of socket one with 20mm and other with 24mm check for this when changing yours

they are rechargable on the blizzards, its just some coin batterys arnt. say for instance you get a cr3032,there are two types. rechargable and non-rechargable to prove what i just said,if you look at the battery on a blizzard there soldered on and theres no socket if they where not rechargable this would be pointless.if you get my meaning. roy i will disagree with your last statement it is pointless when mass production costs and never saw rechargeable coin baterys and neither on accelerator cards if you are sure i would like to see a picture of one that is engraved rechargeable .

I have two Blizzards at present and they were both supplied with Panasonic VL-2020 rechargeable batteries as standard
http://industrial.panasonic.com/www-...08+VL2020+8+WW They appear to make larger versions also |

i think i am getting your point but just seeing with my eyes if i bought one from ebay .
i bet the seller couldn´t proof it is rechargeable, but what intrigues me is so many engraving and no ,rechargeable ,marked on the coins? let me guess the machine dameged just for you to see on my local hardware store i asked them when repaired a ram clock card of an amiga 500 and asked them and the first thing they say was no rechargeable coin batery´s, and in all batery´s if rechargeable they must be marked outside. |

if you think about it,they have to make two type.s of the same battery for instance take watches, caculators and even vernier gauges which are non-rechargable.becuase theres no way to recharge them in the unit big hint here theres no recharge circuit.
on the other hand there is a recharge circuit on the blizzards.and others prowler, where i mentioned a rechargable cr3032 battery.theres also one in every ps3 controller along with the rechargable coin battery in the main unit for keeping time.and my pc has a rechargable cr3032 which is a dell 5000.i know because i had to change it out 2 years ago its about 8 years old now. im going to drop this now,but before i do a repair shop told a freind of mine that you cant get the parts to repair his commodore 64 as it was too old.i fixed it for him for the price of the parts which turned out to be two ram ic's.which are alot harder to get than a battery. |

i think CR is to fit in a socket/holder,and VL is solder tag, have a look for VL3032 youll see what i mean.
but then again it could mean vanadium lithium, because they do the same battery as a horizontal or vertical mount hmmm. Last edited by roy bates; 29 May 2012 at 12:55. |

I don't have a PS3, so I've not seen those you mention. However, the PC I use as a Disk2FDI machine uses a CR3032 coin battery, which is not (AFAIK) rechargeable, and yet the original battery lasted some 12 years before it needed replacing (two years ago). How can you tell the difference? Are the rechargeables actually engraved, or do they have tags for soldering directly to the motherboard? Presumably it would cause fireworks if you were to replace a rechargeable battery with a non-rechargeable if the motherboard incorporated a recharging circuit. |

unfortunatly prowler i have to believe the seller when they say they are rechargable the code for them is lm3032 not cr3032 same size and engraved as rechargable.yes i made a mistake,oh dear.*sigh*
the battery in the controller isent a coin battery sorry lads, the one in the main unit is though.massive facepalm there. if you where to incorporate a non-rechargable battery into a unit that used to have a rechargable battery you would probably have to add a schocty diode,i dont know weither they explode or not though but they probably do.lol Last edited by roy bates; 30 May 2012 at 09:49. |

The battery on my Blizzard 1230/IV shown here:
http://wuselfuzz.de/images/blizzard1230/IMG_1740.JPG is definitely rechargeable. The card has been sitting in a drawer for about 10 years, but after refurbishing my A1200 recently, the card with the original battery now actually holds the time/date even if the computer is turned off for a few days. |
