Sorry I was not there and it seems that spam bot problem increase.
![]() New registration are closed until I found a valid fix. Tell me if it stop spam. --- edit: a new registration process is active, it should stop spambot. |

It seems the bots are either smarter, or maybe there is some human interaction too!

How about registrations only with a valid e-mail address from the ISP? This would kill not all, but a lot of spammer.

Though many isp's email are useless that never work, then not everyone could join here.

Doesn't the registration have it so you need to enter a valid email address and then login to your email and click on activate registration or something?. Should be like that imo.

It already is like that.. or at least it was, but how hard would it be for a bot to simply put in an email addy, wait for email, open it and then open any links contained within email!

I meant no "disposable" email-addresses.

Well, donno if this has been mentioned before, best way to fix this might be when they register they have to enter a tiny text about why they want to register, an admin gets all the register requests and must accept, then no bots can slip through.... but then you wouldn't know if it was a bot or not as they probably would use a common text like any other real person wanting to register.... meh, I donno ![]() |

All these spammers seem to just put "1" as their location so couldn't something be done to stop people registering if they use that?

the non-free accounts (ISP, bank account etc) are a barrier also to normal members. I for one use a free account as main one and never used the one of the ISP and i would hate to see other stuff in the bank' one.
there should be easier way to avoid spam than that imho. |

I agree, that is a good idea - as long as ALL mods are allowed to approve registrations so it can be done as quickly as possible rather than potentially waiting a while for a global mod to appear and then having to approve a whole load of accounts in one go.

Moreover, what would be the best, ban 10 fake account reported by users or moderate 100 new registration ? ![]() |

Well that's why I said let every moderator approve accounts - there are, what, about 25 (maybe more) area moderators? If we all did our bit too it would help massively (and I dare say the number of spambots are outnumbering the genuine members at the moment when it comes to registering). Either that or increase the number of global mods (as they already have massive amounts to do as it is - there's only three of the guys and they do a fantastic job) - approving registrations is the way to go, in my opinion anyway. But then it's totally up to you.
