Can IK+ plus be hacked for 3 human ply simultaneous?
I just came up with this idea, but don't know about disassembling and patching games:
Is it possible for some coding guru to go in and patch ik+ to allow the third dude to be controlled by a third joystick connected e.g. via 4ply adapter? . |

If anyone could patch the game to do this then they deserve a knighthood.

The C-64 version is patched for 3 players, you need the Protovision 4-player adapter.

An easier (though very useful) patch would be one that removed those silly shield&kick bombs mid-games that get in the way of the real action!

That's exactly what i was thinking. Add an option to remove those mid-games and add 3-pl possibility! How about a 4th human/computer pl?

You may as well write a completely new game if you're going to take it that far

Of course it's possible, it's just a matter of finding the correct order of 1's and 0's

For as we all know there are 10 people in the world. Those that understand binary and those that do not.

I think it could be done of course, since player 2 is controlled either by CPU or human. The same thing could be done with the 3rd player.
But it would require a total change of game strategy: in 2 player mode the aim is that CPU opponent has the lowest possible score in order to continue playing, and he's never thrown out. What would be the point of going through the levels without a CPU opponent, and would the last one be thrown out after first round? And yes, I agree the bomb and bounce thing is really boring after a while. If you know the arcade version of Karate Champ, you'll see that there are bonus sections but they only last 5 seconds if you decide to flunk them. |

Since the C64 version (IK+ Gold) seems to play fine with 3 ply (I guess players have to count the number of rounds won themselves). Why not just do the same thing to Amiga version? Of course we need a disassembler-genius to actually perform this task, but he would deserve a shrine or some donations . The description of the C64 "unlimited mode" is here: http://s64.emuunlim.com/gameinfos/ik...ikplusgold.htm , one can see how 3ply could be done in practice. A counter for each player that displays the number of rounds won, per player, would be the icing on the cake for great, endless, 3ply joy. Last edited by rsn8887; 08 September 2007 at 21:02. |

why not have it that a player drops out if they lose both rounds (between the bonus rounds) this way it would be possible for all 3 players to continue for ages, but you'll still have to be careful not to lose too much!
i'd love to see this happen... but i dont know how anyone could NOT like the bomb round??! |

the bomb round is ok, except for the bug that sometimes you die when a bomb explodes, even if you are FAR away from any shrapnel
I'd love the option to turn the "bonus levels" off as well as being able to play 3 player |

Bomb / Shield are indeed great parts of the game.... and Slabs which you have to headbutt .... awsome!
and once you have demoralized your opponent with at 2 nill trouncing... to turn arround and get a perfect at the shield / bomb or slabs.... makes it all feel better..... personally though, theres more chance of making Chaos Engine 3 player unfortunately! |
