Can't access Early Startup Screen
I want to make sure I can boot from an external bootable HD before making any changes to the user-startup file but I can't get this Amiga (an A3000 turned into a Mediator tower) to boot into the Early Startup Screen, either with the bootable HD attached or without it attached.
Could the fact that the Amiga has five partitions on it (I inherited it) matter? It's running OS 3.1 and has a Radeon graphics card |

Do you use an USB mouse? The early startup menu requires a native mouse.
In order to boot from an external HDD anyway, use HDToolbox to set the boot priority of the new harddrive higher than the internal one. |

I am not talking about an USB adapter, that counts as a native mouse. I was asking about an USB mouse connected to an USB expansion (for example Spider USB on the Mediator).

I don't know if this is a peculiarity of modern mice, OS4, or the AmigaOne hardware design, but on my OS4 system I can't access Early Startup unless the mouse is also moving while both buttons are pressed.
I think this is unlikely to be the case on a classic system like the 3000, even with a USB mouse adapter, but maybe worth a try. |

As for the external HDD, for some reason it's not recognized even when I boot normally with it attached to the SCSI port (it works on my other Amiga) Last edited by garyg; 01 January 2024 at 15:52. |

No, I didn't know that, but I assumed that the Early Startup Screen bypassed the graphics card or otherwise use Picasso 96.
