You can't use the CD-ROM drive as the DMAC is incompatible with the current version of PiStorm. It requires multi-master bus arbitration which was added to the AtariST version but has not come back to the Amiga version. (Mainly because it slows down the bus and 99% of users don't need it)

An update regarding the native video pass-through was recently posted and it looks amazing, the instant resolution switching is very impressive but interlace still needs some work before it's ready.

I'd like a PiFire or VampStorm.

Thanks and Happy New Year to all of you. New feature of this RGB to HDMI passthrough - ability to turn it (and tune) on early boot already. Example video below, be patient, it is booting from floppy:

Howdy @mschultz
Patreon supporter here, can I ask a hypothetical question about pistorm for cd32. In theory, would it be possible to create a version of pistorm for cd32 that can autboot a game from a micro se card? In broad terms, what is missing in the solutions available atm? |

No soldering should be needed other than soldering the pins on the FPGA board if you buy that separately. It does not need any connections to any CIAs (or anything else) |

Vampire or PiStorm?

Thanx for the answer. No worries, Im just exploring possible ways to implement the silly idea of creating a cartridge game for CD32 where the cartridge contains hardware to run something much more demanding than the original hardware can handle ;-) (Like the superFX chip in SNES games or the sega Virtua Processor). E.g. One could package Quake 2 into a ”self contained” cartridge that you put into any vanilla CD32 and it would boot the game from the SD card. Its 100% silly, but just one of those ”what if…” ideas ;-) |

You can do that using a riser, a TF328 and a CF card that contains the game and loads it automatically (the TF328 boots from the CF card).
With some work, you can probably extend the IDE port so that the CF card can be accessed from outside, which would then be your cartridge. Quake 2, of course, won't work. But let the CD32 be a CD32. There's no need to have it run Quake 2... |

I know its a fringe idea but sometimes sh1t like that is compelling. :-) I like the idea that a crappy console can play games that are way beyond what the original system could do. It sort of turns things on its head, which I find amusing and technically interesting. |

Am I interpreting the above correctly, that if I get a standalone rPi4B (4 GB), then I won't be able to run Emu68k ? Meaning, right now, Emu68k only works through PiStorm using a physical Amiga computer ? Last edited by VladR; 28 February 2024 at 19:21. Reason: typos |
