Personally i prefer the up for jump on giana sisters. For me i feel as though i have more overall control of Giana.

For me, I had trouble getting used to it, as I'd played plenty of Super Mario Bros on the NES and Alex Kidd in Miracle World on the SMS, both of which use a button to jump, and so when I did try platformers on the Amiga that used up to jump, it was hard to get used to, and I never really tried. I suspect that if I'd never played Mario or Alex Kidd, and my first experience had been playing Giana Sisters, up to jump would feel natural to me, and pressing a button may feel odd, but that's just my theory.

Yesterday I went to pick up this untested C64 lot. Usual "i don't have power cables or power supply" case which can go either way regarding functionality: Opened it all up as I always do before powering up, for a proper cleanup. Noticed a rattle inside the C64, it was a nail! I am glad I didn't power up or it could have shorted. There was also copious amounts of dirt and even some glitter As it turns out, all was working, even the 1541: I'm always amazed at how silent US disk drives are, compared to the European ones. Anybody knows how they achieved this? This 1541 I cannot hear loading, I have to put my ear really close to it to hear what is going on! Black and white image because it's an NTSC machine and all my gear is PAl. Even though it's in a C64C case, this is an old motherboard, 6581R4AR machine. To my surprise, even the printer still works! I guess thermal wax cartridges don't dry up. |

Nice catch!
Not noticed my 1541 is noisy, only the woodpecker can be heard at times! Which reminds me, I must get round to fitting those quiet drive stops I have!! |

Nothing big, but still rather handy to prevent wear and tear on the poor old mouse port, and it makes sure nobody disconnects and reconnects anything while it's on, risking damage to the CIA:

Pity the cable isn't, it looks broke, or is it just the angle?

Check this bad boy out!
Quite a yellowed keyboard but the main unit is a very clean colour. She works perfectly and I'm impressed with the Indivision AGA. It's not as 'crisp' as the dvi output from the mk II I have on my A1200 but it works really nicely. Last edited by trixster; 23 October 2018 at 20:36. |
