It was this game being demonstrated on an Amiga 500 some 31 years ago in Burnley Computer Centre that convinced me to embark upon a long and arduous - but ultimately successful quest - to acquire that spectacular machine!

When it was released, F/A-18 Interceptor was truly an amazing flight sim for the A500. I remember watching the 'demo' running in a store and was blown away. The graphics engine is technically brilliant and a testament to the programming skill of Bob Dinnerman. This is one game that every Amiga user remembers and won't forget. Easy to play, hard to master the various controls. The game does run faster (smoother) on a A1200 (14MHz), but IMHO this game deserved a sequel or Special Edition of the game on the A1200. In my book, Interceptor is an iconic title that belongs in the Amiga Games Hall of Fame.

F/A-18 continued on in the form of the Jetfighter series on the PC: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jetfighter_(series).

The trouble with faster Amiga's is that the game is smooth, but the overall time in the game is faster.
Is there possible fix for that? Some patch? Like, playing smoother, but game time remains the same (like Frontier). |

I found that although the frame rate is higher on the Blizzard 1230-IV 50Mhz, F/A-18's game clock ran at the same framerate - very playable and much more enjoyable than when I played it back on the A1000.

hmm... on my ACA 500 + , when I run it on 42 Mhz, I reach the Golden Bridge 4 times faster, then on regular 7Mhz.
Any idea how I can fix that? |

I noticed the same thing. On my A1200 with 28Mhz (Blizzard1220) you also have better framerate but the game runs too fast. If there's a solution I'd be interested too. I guess it's not too easy, because probably it has to be a patch/code change to the game engine itself.

The cracked version I used was fixed for the A1200, so possibly may have already been patched to sync to vblank?

7Mhz .. 3min02s 14Mhz .. 1min55s 21Mhz .. 1min40s System and Game: A500 with ACA500+, F18 HD Version (not WHDLoad, but a modified Disk version that works with HD) Update: A1200 with Blizzard 1220/4 (020 at 28Mhz) normal hd version .. 1min11s whd-load version .. 1min14s (cutscene zooms and gameplay feel quite too fast) IMHO you can still play it fine with 14Mhz, but at the fastest system (1m11s) it's too fast for good gameplay (try landing on the carrier ) and you also can't read the mission briefing because its gone too fast. When communicating with the ebay seller of the Batman pack I purchased last year, and I quote......
"And 1 more question, does the F18 Interceptor Box have the Code wheel inside?" ....it did. He even sent me a photo |

I dont know about the Tosec version but will take a look at it if I find the time.
A few months ago I patched the game myself to load from HDD instead of DF0:. I just uploaded it to the zone! It is not fixed for AGA though (works but has glitches, avoid looking into the sun ), but loads nicely from HDD, no install or WHDLoad required. Let me know what you think of it. |

I just purchased factory sealed copies of F/A-18 Interceptor and Earl Weaver Baseball, both in mint condition. They cost me a good amount, but these were my favorite games when I purchased my first Amiga 500 in 1988.
