You checked your account recently
![]() It cuts twice as hard though; the last PC I bought (Asus P4S8X + 2.4GHz Northwood + 4GB RAM) was for £50 from a guy in the pub who was upgrading in 2004. All those I've had since (AMD Athlon 64 4000, Abit AT8, 4GB DDR400, Nvidia 7300GS PCIe) & (AMD Dual Athlon 200 + Tyan K8SE + 8GB RAM + ATI X600) were all hand-me-downs for free from work. |

Work buys one of every model motherboard chip-set combination that is released. They just don't have the storage to keep them all for ever. They have to scrap it off continuously. They usually keep them for between 1 and 3 years.
Unfortunately I missed out on the Core2Duo scrapping (I was on holiday). My AMD 4000 isn't powerful enough to decode todays HD video, very sluggish with 720p on YouTube etc. I don't tend to play PC games cos my PC is always crap. The Intel integrated gfx on this will probably suck but I just want a very fast but quiet desktop PC for the home office. |

Nice system you have there, i'm thinking about building something similar but in ITX form. I'm thinking along the lines of: Intel Core i5 2500K (or maybe even the i7 2600K) Socket 1155 ITX motherboard with either the H67 or P67 chipset (not too bothered which one). 8GB DDR3 RAM Silverstone SG07 ITX case with a single 12V rail 600W PSU included ![]() 2GB Radeon 6950 GPU (performance is on par with Nvidia's GTX 570 except the 6950 features more RAM, runs cooler, is more energy efficient and costs less to buy ![]() I'll be getting rid of my 2+ year old Core i7 940 PC as it's too big and clunky and likes to drain electricity like there's no tomorrow! Even the new i5 2500K outperforms the older i7 range ![]() |

Same here too, I find it too much hard work keeping a PC up to date for gaming and it doesn't feel right launching games from Windows for some reason.

Hey! I bought some new stuff
I can't see a 'smug' smiley in the list, so you'll have to take my word for it
![]() Today I managed to increase my retro gaming, Spectrum and Amiga collection in one fell swoop! 1 x Vectrex videogame console, tested and working like a dream ![]() 1 x Spectrum+ to add to my collection (11 Spectrums and growing ![]() 1 x Amiga 600HD - complete with spare A500PSU, Deluxe Paint 4 and a collection of joysticks! I've not had chance to check the Miggy over yet as I picked them up on the way to work, so I'm well-keen to see what's on the HDD!! The case has yellowed horrendously, but I deep clean all my collectables when I get them so this'll make a cool project. All a snip at £80 for the lot (the Vectrex is worth that alone ![]() I'm so excited!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

@LuMan - great move. I think Vectrex's are ace. Had a quick go on one at R3PLAY recently, it was running scramble.
Edit: found an interesting video on youtube, it shows the PS2 and xbox versions of san andreas, and you can clearly see the xbox version looks washed out, this is how it looks on my set up too. [ Show youtube player ]. The PS2 version looks a lot richer and so does the PC version. Last edited by TCD; 13 January 2011 at 15:38. |

Big improvement, I enjoy getting old hardware like that and cleaning it up. On one hand I criticise people for letting their stuff get so shitty but on the other hand I'm glad in a way as it means I can improve it. Had this with my new xbox, it was filthy and needed taking apart and vaccing out
