normal temperature of the 68030rc50

Just wanted to know what temperature is acceptable for a 68030 cpu.

I added some minor passive heat sink to the cpu of my accelerator card, but i think it still gets a bit warm (too warm to touch for more then 5-6 seconds).

I changed all the capacitors on both mainboard and accelerator card and i measure a stable 5.00 volts on the a500 PSU i use on my a1200.

Would it be completely unnecessary to add a bigger heat sink, i got an old vga-card fan which doesn't take too much space, and can remove quite a good deal of heat even when running at 5 volts.

If i choose to install the fan would it be advisable to add it directly to the 5 volts of the acc.? if so i guess i should add a bigger filter cap to where i choose to draw my line from.

so meaning it shouldnt be harmfull for it to run hot even with heatsink?

any point at all in adding active heatsink?... increased lifespan maybe?

Exactly

As to improving lifespan, yes that is a consideration but mine is like 14 years old and going strong so....

I added a notebook vertical fan to my Microbotics MBX1230XA blowing air to heatsink'ed CPU and FPU and 128Mb RAM SIMM.

I take the 5V from floppy connector.

Im milling a aluminum heatsink for the cpu and make a heatpipe connection to the fpu to see if i can pull a bit of heat away from it like that. there are only space for a 1 mm copperplate on the FPU if i dont remove a bit of plastic from the lower case.

There are not enough room for any fan i got, but the heatsink is gonna be 52*80*7 mm with 4 mm deep 2 mm wide ripples.
So hope its gonna be enough.

How does the mbx work out for you?.... any issues in whdload?

Re: the original question

Up to 70C ambient should be fine. I don't know what that translates to if you're stupid enough to stick your finger on it when the general air volume around it is that hot though.

Hints:

A small heatsink taken from a dead DVD home player will fit perfectly over the CPU. It is low profile.

A very small vertical fan can be placed near the floppy hole to the exterior, blowing air in the CPU/FPU/SIMM direction. The keyboard itself will help to orientate the air flux.

I have been thinking of that.
Since i'm cutting out in the expansion port cover to make space for the heatsink, the airflow comming down on the underside will pretty much have to escape where the heatsink is.

No need to cut the trapdoor. The vents in the under front side of the wedge can take the heated air away of the case.

well... with the heatsink im adding, i have to make the cut
Are the cpu and FPU not on the underside on your board?

Of course they are. I just managed to grab a really thin pair of heatsinks.

On my Microbotics 1230XA, I don't use any fans nor heatsinks at all. I've ran the A1200 hours straight, even on demos (for testing stability), it doesn't overheat at all. I even have the trapdoor on!

That's no good! You're putting pressure on the acc itself when the Amiga is laying on a flat surface...
(Because of the black little dot you put on the heatsink)

You should put four big dots on each corner of the Amiga's underside, not on the trapdoor

i did put the feet on each corner of the amiga underneath.

The "black dots" you see is holes i made for the capacitors since i changed them with some which were physically bigger, since that was what i had

But I am putting some pressure on the accelerator since i use the trapdoor cover to keep the heatsink in place.

Ahhh! I see it now, small blue caps in there
Oh well, I think the trapdoor-pressure isn't that hard, so it should be ok

are your cpu and fpu socketed?
I have like 1 mm of air in between the cpu and cover
