HOL - offline version ?!

Hey!

It would be really cool to have the HOL-database as a complete offline catalogue.

What about a button called "Create offline HOL database" or something.
(..and the complete website is saved somewhere on hd)

So, it´s easy to get an updated offline version everytime you want one.

Well, people could then post it on other sites, that's not good.

@ Ironclaw:

But isn´t it already possible to save a complete website with special tools?
So, posting on other sites is not the point.

Just imagine HOL and/or EAB close down and are lost forever.
HOL is fantastic, and I think it should be an offline library; e.g. on an Amiga Gaming Station!

well you can grab complete site, if they are not leechprotected. I think HOL is so (you can only watch 100 games pr day, so you would have to grab it over a longer periode

@ Dizzy:

Really? I didn´t know that I can only watch at 100 games per day.

I would even pay for a HOL-CD. But I´m afraid the HOL Team doesn´t want an offline version.

You can browse as much as you like but once you hit an access limit you need to type a code from a picture to show that you're not a bot.

An Windows offline version is in progress but I'm not sure how far RCK has got.

I sincerily doubt anything as big as HOL's site isn't using MySQL...

It's not webcrawlable.

I perform daily backup of the whole abime.net server, and I don't plan to lose those ressource forever

Anyway, one offline version of HOL will definitively be created, the project is already started and will be released when it's done.
It will be one local software with auto update concept.

It sure is! Obviously the 100 games limit is an issue, but if it wasn't, commanding a bot to search for a blank phrase (try it) and then spider every link (to a maximum of one level) would do it.

Any chance you could create the raw data instead? I know if it was an 'app' I'd never use it.

But it's database would be no longer dynamically accessible. Pretty much every link in HOl is a query to the database.
