Best 68k assembler for beginners?

Hello, can someone recommend an Native assembler for beginners, the only assembler I have heard of for the 68000 is devpac II, since it was used to write AMOS. I have a Amiga 500 so it would be best if I was able to purchase it from Ebay on disk so hopefully it would be easily available. Thanks

There are no commercial assemblers anymore which offer more value than the free assemblers. Devpac is nice, but you probably also get it for free (not sure about the copyright situation there).

Otherwise there are many good freeware assemblers which run on the A500: a68k, AsmOne, Barfly, PhxAss, SNMA - just to name a few.

I recommend Hisoft Devpac as it is more 'professional', stable and complete than most of the compatible freeware stuff. Try to get the full package with manual if you can (I won't be selling mine!) or you could get Devpac II off the Amiga Format Issue 62 (August 1994) coverdisk.

If you can't find a copy on disk then either contact another Amiga owner who can make one for you, or get a Gotek drive and put the ADF files on a USB memory stick.

if you have a PC, first create your projects using vasm and modern environment, then test on an emulator, then when it works more or less, give it a go on your A500.

You'll save a lot of time like this... my 2 cent

I found AsmOne quite nice to beginn with.
Once you know the few commands it's quite easy and quick to use IMHO.
It's also what photon used in his youtube tutorials.

Furthermore share AsmTwo and AsmPro a very similar user interface.

It all comes down to what you're most comfortable with.

In the UK the majority used Devpac, because presumably, thats what got copied and spread quite quickly and was immediately compatible with other peoples source code in the UK.

On the continent, ASM-ONE and its derivatives were very popular.

For WHDLoad stuff I use PHXASS, but for everything else, its Devpac.

I never got on with ASM-ONE, its just what you're used to.

I'd recommend this route as well.
It's a bit more work to get started, but it will make your life a lot easier in the end.
