Deluxe Paint IV, V removing startup dialog
Im a big fan of these classic programs.
But one thing that is always bugging me is the "Regstistered to Ian Cogins" or "For Commodore bundle only" dialog that is displayed when they start. I am using versions form TOSEC from the eab file server: Deluxe Paint IV v4.5 (1992)(Electronic Arts)(AGA)(Disk 1 of 3)(Program)[CBM A1200 bundle].adf Deluxe Paint V v5.0 (1994)(Electronic Arts)(AGA)(Disk 1 of 4)(Program).adf Any assembly wizards out there that know how to go about disabling these, using hex editor? I am assuming the developers or publishers made this difficult on purpose. |

Is there no other versions of this e.g. IPF version that can be made to ADF? I have an entire collection of Deluxe Paint utilities in storage (including the video editors) so if needed I could make an image at some point (I'm hoping I have this version).

TOSEC only seems to contain a few of the DeluxePaint versions. But my knowledge about it is contained to what is in the EAB file server.
Even if we had other source I think the "Registered to" dialog will be there anyway on those versions? |

I'll try and dig out my version later if I get a chance. I doubt it will have copy protection so if I do find it I can create an .ADF.
Update: Yes you're right. Mine has the "For Commodore Bundle only", sorry. Also tells me to "Pass the word... not the disk!" Last edited by lesta_smsc; 07 March 2021 at 15:51. |

If it’s like other programs that do this sort of thing, the only difference with an uncracked original is it’s going to ask you to plug your own name into the requester window. Getting rid of the window entirely is going to be a much more complicated hacking effort.
The older DPaint IV (non-AGA) doesn’t have this window, though. So if you can put up with the smaller palette and reduced features it’s certainly an option. |

My favorite version is Deluxe Paint III as that is what I used back in the day on my A500. It is the last version that was released with Dan Silva still onboard, and the program lost some of its identity after that. I mean its noticeable other devs got involved in IV and V.
Also doesn't have that ugly window that you need to dismiss each time. So my reason for using IV and V is AGA support. It kind of surprises me that no cracking group removed this in the cracked versions. |

I don't think it's very difficult to remove this popup. I'm going to try to do that, for instance on the 5.2 version.
note that the popup goes away after 1 or 2 seconds if you don't click on anything... no biggie. |

was it just a _LVODelay while loading, or did it open the window, load the app then close the nag screen?
