Bad ROM or something else?

If you power up an A600 with a bad ROM what typically shows on the screen? What happens without a ROM?

I have one that when I try to power it up with no ROM, floppy, keyboard, or HD, I get a signal as the screen flashes momentarily and then goes back to black.

Is this probably the ROM or is AGNUS dead? Or maybe the 68000?

Okay, I found this thread by Bippym that explained the bootup process.

Quote:
Dark Grey: The hardware test has been completed OK, and the registers are readable.
Light Grey: The software side has passed.
White: The initialisation is correct and the system is ready to boot.
What about black? That is all that I get. The guy I got the A600 from said that it had a bad ROM, but when I replaced the ROM, this is what I get.

Nothing happens without ROMs but semi-broken ROM can cause "random" accesses to custom chips and possibly random color flashes or other garbage.

So should I try pulling my 1.3 from my A500. I have another A600 that has 3.1, but I am hesitant to pull it right now.

If it were something besides the ROM, then how likely is it that it could damage my other ROMs?

Just tested both of the 2.05 ROMs in my A500. The one in the new A600 just went black, except for one time when it gave me a bunch of garbage as Toni says above.

The other powered up and the screen changed to red and the power light began to flash. By the info from bippy quoted above, I guess that means that this ROM is bad. (Also the one that was quoted as being good when I bought it.)

The 1.3 also did not work in the A600. Can a 1.3 not be used in an A600, maybe because it is ECS???

A500 KS 1.3 ROM will work on A600. (IDE and PCMCIA won't work)

Either you connected it incorrectly (ROM leg 1 must go to socket hole 2, ROM leg 2 goes to 3 etc.. Socket 1 and 42 will stay empty) or something else is broken.
