Speeding up the 060?

OxyPatcher

I heard of a program named OxyPatcher, that did something, er, to speed up the FPU of the 68060? Or something. Anyone heard of it? Or should I use another program?

Thanks

OxyPatcher only Speed up the FPU on 040 and 060 CPUs because it emulates the FPU Codes that are not fully implemented in 040 and 060 FPU and normally have to be calculated by the 040.library and the 060.library, not really usefull ....

This isn't actually the case. OxyPatcher/CyberPatcher both provide software emulation of opcodes missing in the 040 and 060. Motorola decided to reduce the instruction set of the 68k series for these two chips, based on the assumption that no-one ever used some of them. They replaced them with very slow hardware emulations.

Unfortunately, a significant amount of Amiga software uses these missing instructions. Symptoms vary from minor slowdown (Imagine) to complete system lockups (Alien Breed 3D and PlaySID).

OxyPatcher and CyberPatcher solve the problem. CyberPatcher ships with Blizzard boards; OxyPatcher was available separately. Try to get hold of OxyPatcher 3.14, as that is the best (last?) version.

Can one use both CyberPatcher & OxyPatcher simultaneously or just one of them at a time? Which is better?

Nope, you can only run one at a time. I prefer OxyPatcher, as it seems a little more reliable to me, but they do the same job. If you have the Blizzard 060 tools disks, you'll find CyberPatcher on there. CyberPatcher will not work with non-Blizzard hardware.

You may also want to download MuLib which, as well as giving support for the MMU, includes a variety of tools for optimising an '060 system (including an alternative to Oxy/Cyberpatcher).

In the final years of my Native Amiga usage with an '060 system, this gave me the best setup from many that I tried.
