WinUAE exits after start with MessageBox..

..but sadly this box contains no descriptive message, its only
a small empty window with an OK-button.

Very strange..

PS:
i have a newly installed Win98SE/MSIE5 system
with DirectX 8, OpenGL and 512MB RAM.
Which additional software-requirements / system-settings
do i need for correct operation of WinUAE 1.2.0 ?

Does it say "WinUAE <something>" in title of dialog?
Could you email or post your winuaebootlog.txt?

I experienced similar problem yesterday when trying to run WinUAE in school. First it complained about missing dinput8.dll. After I downloaded the file it complained again, this time with empty dialogbox only. Then I replaced the exe with older version (<1.0.0) and the message was visible. Something like "DirectX is required". I can't remember exactly, sorry.

WinUAE shouldn't even start without at least DirectX8 properly installed (you don't "install" DX8 by copying DLLs..)

well, I do not know what's installed on school computers, DirectX or not. I just wanted to run WinUAE so I was adding what the program was asking for until I reached the empty requester...

you have maybe computers at school that use special truncated version of windows 2000/XP. as they are non regular windows OSses, you can even crash the PC
by trying to install Winuae.....
