How can I Clean up multiple folders at once?

Hello,

I'd like to change the font used on my system, but that breaks the layout of directories (icons position).

I'm looking for a way to apply a Windows/Clean up by/Name, Window/Resize to fit and Window/Snapshot/Window to all directories and sub-directories at once.

I am using OS 3.1.

Am I stuck having to do that manually for hundreds of directories, or is there an automated way to achieve this?

Not on ancient OS3.1 there isn't; you need OS3.5 or later.

Thank you for your reply Minuous, I appreciate it.

Could it be a solution to make a WinUAE configuration with an OS 3.5 system, add the drive with the directories I want to sort, and sort them up from 3.5?

Do you think changes would stay when I'd boot from 3.1 again later?

Yes, they will stay. Icon file format hasn't changed. Only a new section for palette-mapped icons was added.

However, if your 3.1 system is using NewIcons and you are unlucky, OS 3.5 will convert NewIcons into OS 3.5 icons and they won't show on 3.1. But I think this only applies to IconEdit and RAWBInfo, not to the snapshot function.

Regarding "OS 3.5 can do it", it can't out of the box. It just has an ARexx interface with which you can open and close drawers and access all the menu functions. But you have to write this ARexx program yourself.

That's worth a try.

Forever in your debt, as usual!
