Alien Breed 3D cd32couk - Crashes in WinUAE
More often than not, the cracked "Alien Breed 3D (2016-01-01)(Team 17)[f http://www.cd32.co.uk]" image crashes WinUAE.

Probably not WinUAE problem. The game works correctly, only needs more RAM. Try to add 2MB Z2 Fast (or more) for an example.

The emulated system crashing should not crash WinUAE itself unless JIT is enabled.

Changing the Chip RAM from 2MB --> 4MB,
just like you need to with Fightin' Spirit [CD32] fixed the issue. Thanks guys. |

Assuming config is quickstart CD32 (no floppy drives or anything else), this might be one of those weird CD32 games that require CD insert after CD32 boot screen appears (which strangely gives slightly more free ram than booting with CD inserted)

Hi Toni,
You are correct as always Inserting the disc after the "Amiga CD32" screen has appeared allows this game to work with the standard 2MB Chip RAM used in a CD32. Also, adding ",delay" after the .cue file works too Code:
cdimage0=.\Games\Alien Breed 3D CD32\Alien Breed 3D (2016-01-01)(Team 17)[f http://www.cd32.co.uk].cue,delay Many thanks. |

Short note yet just for information... and two questions
Here are the other games, they need "weird startup procedure" to work properly, I know so far. The procedure, when you have to wait till the CD32 start jingle has played and then you can insert CD image for proper startup of the game, otherwise the games don't work due to "not enough memory". And of course, everything has been tested in basic CD32 configuration with 2MB Chip RAM and with TOSEC releases. So, here are the games with "weird startup procedure" 1) Alien Breed 3D cd32couk mentioned in the first post 2) Kang Fu it's mentioned directly at the very beginning of the game manual here: https://hol.abime.net/2545/manual where it is spoken of as a "bug in the CD32" 3) Wendetta 2175 Here only one note... tested with all 3 TOSEC versions with the same result 4) Super Stardust Question 1: ------------ Anybody knows about another CD32 games, they need this special startup procedure? And last... here we have total weird case 5) Fightin' Spirit This game doesn't work when CD is inserted before "CD32 jingle" and this game doesn't work even when CD is inserted after "CD32 jingle". So, "standard startup procedure" doesn't work and "weird startup procedure" mentioned above also doesn't work. We can always see AmigaDos report "SYS:FSCD: not enough memory". We are able to run the game only: -if in the boot menu is used "Boot With No Startup-Sequence" and then you run the file "FSCD" -if we use 4-8MB Chip Ram (2MB Chip + 1-8MB Z2 Fast doesn't help, still the same problem "not enough memory") -if we use "iso" file instead of "cue" file to run the game, but that's idiotic solution, because then there is missing CD music Question 2: ------------- Anybody knows how it is possible and where the problem is in Fightin' Spirit? Maybe some explanation exists, but it's my clear speculation. Maybe this TOSEC version "Fightin' Spirit (1996)(NEO)(M3)[!][Amiga-CD32]" is wrongly marked as game for "CD32" and NEO publisher is also wrong. Two versions of this game exist, first of "NEO" is for AmigaCD + CD32, and second of "Mediasoft" is for AmigaCD only. You can look at HoL info and Discscans here: https://hol.abime.net/532. Unfortunately, there is only one verion of this game in TOSEC. But If this game is "AmigaCD" only, so it still doesn't make much sense, because the game doesn't work with fast RAM, works with >2MB Chip (see above)... Just for interest, Wendetta 2175 works with 2MB Chip RAM on CD32, but CD Amigas need 3MB Ram. It's also mentioned in Manual here: https://hol.abime.net/1689/manual Last edited by Velociraptor5; 24 May 2022 at 01:49. Reason: Super Stardust added |
