Fire & Forget WHD

I experience a speed issue with Fire & Forget preinstalled. After the intro screen, the game plays at a too fast pace.

For those who don't know this game, when the level starts, car goes at full speed before one is able to adjust its speed. It is stupid, but by design (same when the car finishes a level). The reason I mention this is because I noticed from loading F&F through other ways (IPF, A500 config.), the game already plays at a rather fast pace. This said, with the beta, the speed is simply insane (other by design "feature" is that the fuel depletes even though the car is stopped ) and doesn't allow to control the car.

This problem doesn't occur with latest stable. I used Classic WB UAE for this test.
If someone is able to reproduce, he'll notice Game Over occuring before too long !

Nobody wants to give this a try, plz ? Latest beta doesn't solve it. I could reproduce this speed issue on another computer (doesn't occur with ADFs, neither with Fire & Forget II preinstalled).

What was last working beta? (note that this is something that may not be a bug, it is normal that hd installable game behavior changes between versions when using "too fast" cpu settings)

Neither does it work with the stable version . Reason why I mentioned it here : I was using the beta as a preferred version when I noticed it. I know : Not a good reason. Feel free to split "Speed issue with Fire & Forget preinstalled" into a new thread.

As for the CPU, I use 020 & cycle exact. I guess it's not possible to use WHDload with the 010 or the 00.

Fire & Forget is a port from the atari st, and we can guess relying mainly on the processor. since the 020 is 14mhz instead of 7,19 something as the 68000 does, this can be the reason why the game runs faster.

What is the 'correct' speed then and how do you compare it? Ask someone with a real Amiga and a reproduced environment to have a look then.

Thanx dlfr. Well, "excessive speed" means after 10-15 seconds, you fail the race ("game over") because at such speed, it's barely possible to avoid the ammo, the fuel gauge depletes very, very rapidly etc.
Correct speed can be spotted by launching the corresponding ADF (or by trying the ST version). As I said, the game appears to me fast paced and "unfair" by design, but not THAT fast.

So that's a WHDLoad issue then, no?

It would appear so. I'll make a bug report if that's the case.
Should the topic be moved again ?

That's why you should get a real Amiga to do some proper testing

If / when I had / have the room for it, I'd probably get a CPC first. We CPC fanbwoys don't have a Toni Wilen to work on improving the available emulators, and there are numerous issues (input delays & mappings, full screen limitations..).
Not even mentioning it would cost me a lot to assemble an A1200 or 4000 with SCSI HDD and all the nice bits.
but I digress...

Well, as said earlier, it's due to the 68020 clocked higher, and not a whdload bug.

The only solution would be if possible to slow down the game under whdload.

Or at least train the game so that the fuel stops decreasing.

Yes. Maybe you could use some of the known degraders (TUDE etc.) together with WHDload as a preliminary workaround (if compatible; of course it cannot be guaranteed)

...or just emulate a 68000 or choose a custom CPU frequency. Choices, choices...
