Crash on Port Selection
Hi,
XP Pro, Dell D620 Laptop, WinUAE 2.3.2 There seems to be an issue w/ Multi-port MIDI adapters. If the laptop only has MIDIYoke installed, there's no problem. If I plug in my Emagic Unitor 8 port interface, each time I click IO Ports under Settings, it crashes. Unplug the interface, it works again. Repeatable. Have tried: deleting configuration cache manually editing configuration to remove MIDI references. This doesn't seem to be config related, i.e., it behaves this way with the "vanilla" config. Confirmed the behavior on another system w/ a different interface. I'm guessing it's something to do with the port enumeration routine that populates the dropdown boxes when the "IO Ports" item is selected. Any help/workaround would be deeply, deeply appreciated. Need this for a concert coming up in a week. Thanks for any thoughts... |

I need crash dump file (winuae_<number>.dmp). Because you have Windows XP, you may need to install Windows debugging tools to enable crash dump creation (It is built-in in Vista and later)
Unfortunately it seems debugging tools can't be downloaded separately anymore.. I guess easiest way now is to download http://www.microsoft.com/download/en...ang=en&id=8279 and only install debugging tools. You know it is working if you get custom crash dialog when WinUAE crashes. |

Great. See attached, I gave you three of them.
Interesting note... I start WinUAE without the h/w interface plugged in and set it to use a MIDI Yoke virtual port for output. I jump out of the emulation to windows, plug in the h/w interface, use MIDI Ox to route the virtual port to a h/w port. Jump back into WinUAE, run the MIDI s/w, and it outputs to the h/w port. Works well. So I'm REALLY thinking it's a port query/ enumeration issue in the WinUAE configuration/setup code. Thanks for the prompt reply & help. |

Attach also winuaebootlog.txt.
EDIT: Never mind, I forgot that winuaebootlog.txt comes with dump files... Also I think I found the problem. |

Is it something you can easily/quickly fix?

It can be fixed quickly but it is long way to next official version.. Some kind of beta is possible "soon"..

Toni, Has there been any progress on this? A "beta" would be fine. I can't use the emulator at all right now because of this issue. Thanks.

Hi Toni,
The board script does not seem to automatically email me when I have new private messages, I didn't realize I had any until you mentioned it here. I tried the new exe in my existing installation. Instantly crashed. I uninstalled winuae, deleted what I could find in the registry, renamed the old winuae data folder. I downloaded a new winuae installation file (exe), and installed fresh. Before running, I replaced the exe w/ the beta. Instant crash, as attached. Just for kicks, switched back to the release exe, that runs. Any thoughts? |

User CP has option "Receive Email Notification of New Private Messages".
Enable above option and wait for next test version soon |

Found it & set it. Is the default unchecked state of that option a choice when the php script is installed & config'd, I wonder? Literally every other forum I'm on (and I'm on a lot...) sends notifications on new pm's by default, which is what I have to assume most folks would prefer? Strange. One other thing, I'm now trying this on a desktop, Core i7-920, 6gb RAM, Win7/32, if that makes any difference.

Thanks, Toni
So far, so good! I also use STEEM, since I have some excellent Atari MIDI s/w that doesn't exist on the Amiga. I have to say, the MIDI implementation in WinUAE seems more robust/stable than STEEM. The timing just sounds tighter, might be me. Great job. Thanks. As requested: |
