Advice in Programming Amiga GAL chips
Hi,
Would really appreciate some advice on programming Amiga Gal chips. Does anyone have any recommendations for reasonably priced EEPROM Programmers for loading jedec files onto GAL chips - both lattice and the more recent Atmel Chips? Also - what burning software is preferred? I’ve had a look through previous posts and the Genius g540 and similar programmers pop up but I can’t seem to buy these anymore. Looking on Amazon and other sites, the T866ii plus appears to pop up quite a bit and this seems to support the relevant chip types. All advice welcomed. Thanks |

One word on the TL866ii, you might buy it assuming you could also do Amiga ROM also, 27C400. Unfortunately you need an adapter too, just another small cost to be aware of. It’s a good programmer though and I am not aware of any better at a similar price.

I have the TL866 as well, and used it for programming GALs without issues.
It only supports ICs up to 40 pins, so as aeberbach mentioned, it requires some tricks to program larger ones. I'm working on some adapters for using 29Fx00 SMD EEPROMs in my A4000 and have a 48 pin adapter for the programmer on the way to me.. |

I can tell you what not you buy. I have a GQ-4x4 which works great at burning various EPROMs (27C400 needs an adapter) and setting Atmel microcontroller fuses. It does not support GAL16V8s though.
