A2000.. question on P/S
Got an A2000 that was sold as working.. It arrived, it is dead.
Before going at the seller, figured I would ask a couple things.. yes I already tried different cords, check the fuse in the power supply, made sure everything is seated etc etc. One thing I can't remember is there was a difference between the US and EU for power supplys used though... Is it a different power supply in the EU version of the A2000? If so, that would explain why I have no power here in the USA. And sadly, these old power supplies don't have a switch to change over like newer version do.. unless someone knows a way to do it that I don't. Also, for those that tinker, what's the most common failure point in the A2000 power supply? There is no power at all on the meter when I test it. Malakie |

It is different. You need a North American power supply.
Options: 1) Find the correct power supply 2) You can get an ATX power supply with a purpose made adapter 3) You can wire an ATX power supply to the power connector and ground out PWR_ON on the ATX power supply to turn it on. Flip J300 to use internal VSYNC timing instead of TICK. Edit - unless you have a very old ATX power supply, you'll loose -5V with option 3...but that may not matter if none of your plug in cards need it. |

Yes, Europe (and most of the rest of the world) uses 220-240V, the US uses 110V. Your European Amiga will not work in the US. Thankfully you have not damaged your power supply by attempting to run it on half the required voltage.
To set your A2000 to the US voltage, you will need to open your power supply case and move the jumper wire from the 240V pin to the 120V pin. It goes without saying that you should only attempt this if you have good electronics knowledge as the power supply contains lethal voltages, which can be present even with the power cord removed as the filter capacitor can still hold a charge for some time after the power is removed. The jumper wire is the black wire with a yellow tape label and grey plug shown in the image plugged into the 240V pin. Move it to the 120V pin located next to the large capacitors.
