Unwriteable disks!!

Had a bunch of loose disks that had Darkseed and Microprose Formula One Grand Prix in them, dumping showed Dark Seed Disk 1 was unformatted and also Disk 4 of Microprose Formula One Grand Prix!

However, when I tried to write the relevant official IPF's back to disk it wrote no data? My Kryoflux had the write gate jumper closed so it could write and the disk was write enabled but I could not get these two disks to write anything to them?

There was also Combat Air Patrol in these loose disks and all 3 disks were virus infected (Rene) and modified but I could write the official IPF's back to fix the tracks that were damaged/modified! So it looks like the two unwriteable disks I have were sent to the duplicators but there was obviously a defect with them as they didn't get any data written to them!

Anyone seen this before where the disk looks to be manufactured with no ability to record on to them?

Each time you meet such case, the magnetic disk has detached from the metal round inside the floppy disk casing. That's why you don't see anything when reading and writing

Of course! That's exactly why, I even spun the disks to check they were OK so they must have been close to detaching before the drive spun them up and actually did detach them!!

Seeing as they did spin by hand before dumping it never occurred to me they had detached while in the drive!

Time to crack them open and replace the disks!!

Merci Denis
