FS-UAE & vhd disks

I've got a 2Gb .vhd hard drive I use with winuae.

Any opinion on whether this is likely to be supported / already implemented?

Thanks

Most likely it works already. I haven't tested it, but the .vhd support is part of the HDF support code in the UAE core...

I'm using the FS-UAE launcher so I've no idea if there are some extra configuration parameters I could use.

Boot with my normal HDF , workbench reports the vhd disk as DH1:RDSK

Please post the resulting log file when you have tried to boot with your .vdh file, it may contain useful information...

This shows that the VHD file format is recognised correctly, but the RDB mode is not. I think the same happens with normal HDF files, RDB mode does not work.

In order to use RDB mode you have to set Surfaces, Sectors and Reserved to 0 in the configuration.

Good point, FS-UAE automatically reads the first four bytes in the file and automatically enables RDB mode if the bytes are "RDSK", but presumably, the .vhd file starts with some VHD headers instead. I'm not familar with the format and how much work it is to find the first 4 data bytes in the .vhd file to compare with - I can probably use the VHD functions in the UAE core for that...

But anyway, for now you can use this custom option to force RDB mode (replace 0 with another number if applicable):
Code:
hard_drive_0_type = rdb
