Fake Seagate CF 2.5GB Microdrives?
I was going to grab one of these due to the fact I've seen plenty of pictures of them in Miggys already (i.e. no compatibility worries).
Trouble is, the Thailand sticker leads me to believe they're fake and not hiding it. Thoughts? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Seagate-ST1-MI...item3efa40c76a |

It's almost certainly original. Seagate has an assembly plant in Thailand.

I bought one from that seller and its in my A600 now and running fine. By the way he accepted my offer of £2.50 and it took about 10 days to arrive.

Don't worry, totally used to HK post. Been there a few times actually - there's a great 4 story building in Wan Chai packed with nothing but mini hardware counters that's like wandering around the actual eBay stores you see every day on the web. Can't beat rummaging! Thanks for the heads up about the offer though. Good tip. @alexh - had no idea - would always assume the worst with hardware from Thailand. |

Another heads up if you do get one. I usually do all my work in winuae then transfer the drive to miggy but this drive did not snow up in hdtoolbox under emulation so I had to format and partition in the real Amiga. It was fine in uae after that.

I certainly wouldn't worry about it being manufactured in Thailand. Most big names in the computer industry have their hardware manufactured in places like Thailand, Taiwan, China and Korea etc...

depends what you were emulating. As you have to change the hdtoolbox tool type to match.

They are pretty cheap, but why not buy a 4gb flash cf card instead?

I play a lot of WHDLoad via IGame and its always writing to disk so I was concerned about all the re-writes on a CF card. |

@fitzsteve: ok, but still, i think flashcard would last long enough anyway.

This drive also have self-sleep more (like microdrives), right? Which means after few secs without any access it will shut and next access needs another few secs for spinup? or its spinning constantly? |

I'd say the access is slightly slower than my 40gb hard drive in my A1200 and and obviously slower then a CF but for me its perfect for a machine like the A600. Steve. |

I bought one from that seller and it has arrived this morning. I'm gonna stick it in my spare A1200.
