Scanning question

I have a scanner on Linux, using GIMP and XSane. Xsane offers after
a preview scan a correction of the used color space, in effect the
present lowest color is stretched from, say, Brightness 50 to 10, highest color is accordingly increased, so the picture occupies a larger color range after scanning than before. Do you want this feature in scans?

I have made some test scans where i switched it off and put them on the SPS server. File is scans_20110119.zip, md5sum is 0deb8db7e27650e103f6123fd5ac23d5.
You know by my contributions which material i have (except boxes, i had to throw away about 3/4 of my boxes 15 years ago due space problems).
I also made already some test scans some years ago, and never heard anything again on that topic.

Might have happened due to time constraints here. It's basically 5 people doing everything...

We do have a ticketing, if you submit a ticket there, it's easy to remind us from time to time. Currently we're doing lots of dumps/redumps with KryoFlux, and we really have a huge backlog of disks for all systems.

The good thing is... paper won't fade as quickly as data on disks.

On a side note... you can also submit your scans to HOL. One man doing the work here, usually it doesn't take more than 12 hours to add them.

But this was about a submission to SPS, not HOL? If this man you have is just waiting for scans to come in: what a luxury.

Since HOL data is lowres and watermarked we can not use it for archival purposes, but maybe we find a way to split input and reroute it as necessary...

Not sure what you mean with your third sentence then. I just mentioned that HOL would be interested in the scans as well. Nothing more, nothing less.

No hard feelings. But I see what you mean. To me it read like "if SPS doesn't do it today, sent it to us".

As I wrote above it would be a good idea to channel scans input so no duplicate work is happening.
