What is the ultimate filesystem for Amiga greater 4GB?

Hi amiga guys,

i search for the safest amiga filesystem for my Amiga030 with build in IDE controller and a CF Drive 8GB.

I had a lot trouble with the combination of NSDPatch 43.20 and SFS 1.279 and included scsi.device (no patch).
I get blockid error and validating problems after some hours of work with many files and directories.

Please can you post your experience (and combination of patches i need to work) with the filesystem you use.

thx
roger

I repeat it again and again, NSDPatch does not do anything helpful, not in any case. Nobody needs it.

For an 8GB drive I'd suggest to use PFS3ds or FFSTD64 (= FFS V44) or the old version of SFS (up to 1.87). These file systems allow access to 7.8 GB (8064 MB) even as one big partition without any further patch.

In all other cases you need two partitions and a reset during the first boot process. Patches for this are OS 3.5, OS 3.9, IDEfix97 or scsi.device V43. As file system can be used FFS V45 or SFS (any version).

Hi Thomas,

thanks for your answer.
I decide to get a real 2,5 HD 40 GB for my Amiga.
I had a lot of trouble with the the CF drive. (doppelt belgte blöcke unter FFS and No Dos Disk with SFS all this happens after copy some GB of Files what takes some hour) verry angry ... :-(

My last hope is now to install SFS with the patched scsi.device V43 on a real HD. ...

What about the FastFileSystem and scsi.device from 3.9 BB2 (Patched with the BB2 patches from Aminet). Using both of these, I have been able to mount and use a 300GB HDD.

Obviously, the Boot partition still needs to be small, in order to load the patched scsi.device 43.45 and FastFileSystem 45.14.
