Is the A600GS similar to the V4Standalone?

I was reading the press release for the launch of an updated version of PPaint and they mentioned it is using code compiled for the ARM chip. Does this mean that the A600GS is essentially a new Amiga that has a Workbench compatible OS than runs natively on the ARM chip? If so this would be similar to the V4Standalone as being a new variant of a compatible Amiga instead of an emulation box.

No. It is not a ARM system but emulated running on ARM. It is as I understand it competing with Amiga Mini. The OS is 68k, not ARM native.

Although in all fairness, since it is AROS based, it could be made to run natively if wanted

Isn't the V4SA FPGA based? ARM is still there for some operations though...

AFAIK there is no ARM cpu in the V4SA or any other Vampire/Apollo board

It was my understanding that OS libraries can be compiled for ARM and run natively rather than emulated. Such as the ARMgraphics.library

Perhaps Amigakit will explain it further...

my understand is, the system is 68k and there are special libraries who are adapted to the hardware. The OS itself is not running native on ARM

The A600GS features System Release V46 with AmiBench as it's desktop environment. It is OS3.x compatible but designed to be more advanced. Our developers have spent the last 6 years developing the OS.

The majority of the components are 68K compiled at time of release. Creating a fully ARM native OS is many years of work. However there are some libraries which already run ARM native code. The first of these is the ARM Graphics Library.

The new PPaint 7.4 uses a lot of ARM native code for Blitter operations. This speeds up graphics operations at higher resolutions. It is usable and functional at 1080p screenmodes.

We have lots of exciting ideas for development. We will push these updates through using our live update over the coming months after public release.
