B/W on A1000 composite out

I have an Amiga 1000 Rev. A. I have always believed that this is one of the early models sold with NTSC on the composite (and the fact that this is a Rev. A should support this, no?), but when I hook it up to a NTSC compatible TV, the image is still B/W with black vertical lines on certain colours.

I'm wondering if machine is defective, but as I remember, the signal was always like this on the composite (I just didn't have a TV that could handle NTSC.)

Anyone have any idea on what's causing this?

Most european tvs are able to display "60hz", but the signal for colorinformation is still on pal frequencies.

Give it a try on a monitor with fbas input (philips cm8833 or so)

Yeah, don't really have any other option than this TV...

It can handle 50/60hz & 60hz w/PAL colour.

Found this snippet online:

"'early board', with a daughterboard mounted pickaback the mainboard ('piggyback'). Has color composite video output"

Which suggest that I should have colour.

Sweet! My TV handles NTSC. Why don't I get colour?

A1000 schematics are not easy to read (crappy scan quality as usual..), but it seems MC1377 (PAL/NTSC composite video color encoder) clock pin is connected to some system clock signal (which is also different in PAL/NTSC..) resulting in wrong clock and badly timed NTSC color signal. (just a guess..)

Aha, so Commodore messed this up when rushing Amigas to the PAL market? - Ok, nothing to be done about it then.
