I have a A1200 with the Blizzard 1230/IV fitted with a Co-Proc and an 8Mb SIMM (trying to get a 128mb one!), and i have OS 3.5 installed.
And I want to use this setup to firstly network with my PC and to play all those WHDLoad games, but i can't managed to run any game or to network my miggy. So my question is: What do i need to install so i have the miggy ready to use for network/games? What is essencial to install in addition to the OS, to make this work? < I managed to install and config AmiTCP, but i can't manage to get it to work with Samba, as for Miami, it does not identify my NIC (NEC2000)> ![]() Last edited by Eny-; 24 June 2004 at 02:10. |

WB3.5 comes with a TCP stack already installed - Genesis, which is a front-end for AmiTCP. Quite what will happen now you have two other TCP stacks installed is anyone's guess.
For any TCP stack to recognise your network card, you need to get the "cnet.device" from the Aminet (ftp://de.aminet.net/pub/aminet/hard/...cnetdevice.lha). Once you've installed that, and if your card is compatible with the 1200, you should be able to get the network running. |

You'll never need 128mb ram for gaming. Just get a 32mb one, even 16 will do really

So if i got Genesis already installed, where can i configure it? I already have the "cnet.device", and my network card is compatible with my A1200. With AmiTCP installed i managed to ping my PC from the miggy and so fourth. But with Genesis... where can i find it??
![]() Burseg: Yes, i know, but now that i have the possibility being SIMM's so easy to find and for free, i would like to push the limits with the card. ![]() |

Genesis comes with OS3.9... 3.5 only shipped with a trial version of MiamiDX (if I'm not mistaken).

I wouldn't recommend OS 3.9 as the system for an Amiga 1200 setup for games!!! This is what I would recommend: A1200, 030@50 (FPU if available, better), 32MB Fast RAM, 4GB HD. If you want network, one of those PCMCIA 16bit cards that work with the cnet.device driver. OS 3.0/3.1, With something like Miami to conenct to the PC. And the SMB mount thingy. And the FAT95 thingy too, just in case. Miami can be serialized for free now can't it? Being that the author is MIA and abandonded it to its own luck.... That's all... If you have 3.5 and don't want to move from that don't pump up the colors too much as Burseg says, useless on anything below a CGX. i use 32 and it's overkill maybe, but I like it and it's not sluggish. I would recommend a switch back to 3.0 or 3.1 anyway. Last edited by Amiga1992; 22 June 2004 at 23:38. |

I'm using a 1084s monitor. It flickers with interlace modes by hardware but a program named MagicTV decreases flickering to a bearable rate but it works only up to 16 color screenmodes. I'm also running a patch that lets me use 65-71hz euro36 screenmodes with 1084s. So I have a 16 color 65hz interlaced 1084s screen that doesn't flicker.

Thx Akira for your advise.
I only consider the move to the OS 3.9 for a more ' windows ' friendly environment. Why don't you recommend the OS 3.9? I don't care for a ' slower ' OS since i don't tend to use it that much, i only need to use it for networking the amiga to the PC to tranfer files from my PC to my A1200 and to load the WHDload games. |

![]() You will like the speed whenever you have to decompress files or move stuff or just navigate the Workbench for WHDLoad games. Speed always comes in handy, specially in a user interface! Personally I use Workbench 3.0 with some addons and patches which I can list later (tho I think they are somewhere in the Desktop Piccies thread), and Productivity mode in my PC's 17" monitor, at 32 colors. Whenever I load a game I have the TV nearby so I hook the meega to it to play the games. I wouldn't stand a flickering interlace screen anymore. And I don't have a 1084 handy anyway ![]() ![]() I also think 16 meg of fast is OK, is there any game that would eat up all my 32 megs? It never hurts to have more RAm, but with 16 you are cool for WHDLoad. I wish I could find a cheap 128MB SIMM, if you really can get access to some, use it. And then maybe sell the rest to some fellow amiga users ![]() |

MUI and Newicons for starters, even if you don't like them, sometimes you require them. Some icons won't display without newicons and some programs won't work without MUI. I don't like running too many add ons actually, third one I have installed is the CopperDemon, it provides a copper gradient background with 0 performance loss. I'm not using magic menu but many people like it. It's for windows-like right click menu behaviour, compatible with all workbench programs.

Ok... so OS 3.1 + addons [ MUI : NewIcons ] with only this i can play all the WHDload games without a problem? As for a working network what will i need? i can proper install AmiTCP but i can't install Samba, and i can only use Samba, since i want to map the miggy drives on my PC.
