A2000: A2090A + SCSI Plextor PX412Ci 50 pin

Will it work?

Or perhaps, should it work, is more apt. There are no certainties

Better to ask before I take the plunge.

There is no direct scsi support in the A2090A as far as I understand, so probably it will not work.

Phew, it's a good thing I haven't bought the drive then. Thanks Jope!

What kind of SCSI thingies does it support then?

The later A2090 driver does support a rudimentary version of HD_SCSICMD, but apparently it's missing some feature(s) which most programs would need.

There are some things which might make it possible to use a CD-ROM drive connected to an A2090. But I don't know whether it's actually possible, and if I had to guess, I'd say it probably won't work.

1. The CD-ROM drive needs to have a jumper to select 512 bytes-per-sector emulation, enable that.
2. Use a CD filesystem on the Amiga which can be told to use normal commands (CMD_READ), not direct SCSI commands. I think AmiCDFS and AmiCDROM have an option like that.
3. You might need to disable autobooting to prevent the boot ROM code from trying to access the CD drive.
4. The A2090 driver is limited to 256MB drive size. Most CD-ROM discs are larger than that. You could use a patched version of the driver to remove that limit.

Thanks guys. I don't think I will bother with it. Too much trouble.

It seems that an IDE CD ROM is the way to go.
