Multiplayer games via RS-232 port

Hi all. I had an A500+ back in the early 90's, and loved flight sims (still do). My mate a few houses down also did, and we used to hook up a serial connection between our machines and play co-op flight sims (Birds of Prey, MS Flight Sim, FA-18 Interceptor). Much fun.

I remember we used to wait until the small hours of the night to throw this RS-232 cable between our houses so none of our neighbours would notice, trip up, or cut the cable.

19.2Kbps, many errors (not surprising with about 75m of wire!), but terrifically exciting to get it working, and then fly with or against each other.

Did anyone else do this? What games did you play like this ?

My brother had the A500 before me, and when I got mine too, we used to play with a cable we soldered ourselves.

We mostly played Knights Of The Sky and Lotus II and some other racing games. We also tried Populous, but my brother hated it.

We had quite a bunch of games, but I don´t remember all title names.

One of my friends used to bring his Amiga round often and we played various serial linked games, mostly the co-operative play ones.
Things are much easier now with RS232 Bluetooth adaptors rather than massive lengths of serial cable.

I only went from room to room in my Amiga years, but when i first moved out of home (Half-Life Days), a mate of mine also moved two flats down, so i hung an ethernet cable out the back window, past someone elses flat and into his bathroom window.
