Menace - HD Tech Demo - Vampire Remake
Hi Everyone,
I'm currently redrawing all the first level graphics for Menace - A shoot em up that was release in the late 1980's. It's a fairly simple shooter, one I have completed a few times. This "Tech Demo" is planned for all Vampire Amigas. I say Tech Demo as I don't plan on remaking the whole game at this stage as i think it might be better spent on a new game but the code/engine will flow into the more popular Amiga shooter /sequel/spiritual successor (secret at this stage) I have attached some teaser images. Keeping it as authentic as possible and respecting the original design by Tony Smith (Anthony Smith) All foreground/background graphics for the first level are complete, and my focus now is on the enemies, then rebuilding the map using Tiled. I do have more info/behind the scenes on my blog and source files but as always happy to post more info here P.S. Will be updating various projects soon (Boss Machine, Reshoot Proxima III, Art Competition Nova and other projects) P.S.S. the animated Boss didnt seem to work (file too large?) here is an alternative link Last edited by invent; 10 August 2021 at 03:43. Reason: Gif file not animating |

Looks -really- slick.
What is that blue thing on the left, is that a powerup pickup? If so, it looks a little... big Not saying that it is a bad thing though, a gripe I have with some horizontal shooters is that you can't really tell what powerup a pickup gives due to them all looking the same. |

Thanks Gimbal, yes might tweak that slightly, it is the powerup. When the player shoots it is very quickly spins to next weapons.

An updated scaling of the collectible. (was an older asset, I needed to tweak), player may also shrink slightly. Changes have been to the score hud, the reason is the two player option we wanted to maximise the screen real estate.
Hi Havie, Gunnar mentioned it could run on OS 3 or ApolloOS or even Atari with micro change only. However game will use 16bit audio in the game and 8 channel and V1200 can't do this. |

Thanks - shame about the sound but perhaps good tune in the background instead.

Will this use some vampire "special" things or will it work if you have enough CPU power and a RTG screen - basically in WinUAE ?

It use ARNE 16bit audio, so I don't think it will work on WinUAE, at least the audio part.
In order it will not work if, as other ports, it will use ammx instructions. |

Yea, if possible make a fallback to non-ammx and audio, it will work on piStorm atleast. So far other ports that have a fallback (Diablo, C&C, Sonic, etc.) work splendid on piStorm
