Question KickStart and PAL/NTSC on an Amiga 1200

I mentioned about modding the hardware to defaulting to PAL on an Amiga 1200. However, I was wondering if there is a way to do it in Kickstart. I am Softkicking 3.9 on my Amiga 1200 running 3.1 ROMs. is there anyway to modify the files to default to PAL and only if I press the mouse buttons to change to NTSC?

Currently, I can wait to the softkick to happen, hold both mouse buttons and select Double PAL. However, I would love for me not having to do that each time.

Copy/move SYS:Storage/Monitors/PAL to DEVS:Monitors and select a PAL screenmode.

That is only for the Workbench, and does not reply the OP's question.
His mention of DblPAL might have confused you.

He wants the system to default to PAL from cold boot without the need to go to the ESM. I am not sure if the kickstart handles that feature at that point but someone who actually knows what they are saying will probably able to provide a definitive answer.

It should be possible to patch the code in the (soft-kicked) Kickstart which detects whether the machine is jumpered for NTSC or PAL, to always assume PAL.

Big box Amigas can be jumpered between PAL and NTSC. A wire soldered in the right spot should be able to do the same thing for an A1200.

Just press on both mouse buttons at start, then press any key, it will flip/flop between PAL and NTSC.

He exactly said he does not want to do that, maybe you can try reading the OP's request a couple times before posting.

mark_k: that's interesting, do you have any idea how to patch this? It sounds like a great solution for NTSC machine owners.

Exactly which files are used for soft-kicking 3.9? I could figure out a patch if I could obtain it/them. (Don't post links obviously, but filenames could help.)
