Amiga games with sampled speech
OK, time to build a new list. One of things that was always cool in the 8-bit and 16-bit eras was when the game had sampled speech. Obviously a bit easier to achieve on the Amiga with the power of Paula, but it was still awesome when it happened.
So which Amiga games do you remember having awesome sampled speech? I'm excluding mods with sampled vocals - we're just talking about SFX here. I'm also excluding things where it's just sampled grunts and groans - needs to be audible speech. Aladdin Alien Breed 1/2/Tower Assault APB Assassin/SE Ballistix Barbarian I/II (Palace) Bart vs the Space Mutants Beach Volley Beneath a Steel Sky CD32 Blood Money Bob's Bad Day Body Blows Brat Bump n Burn Captain Blood The Chaos Engine 1/2 Chase H.Q. Don't forget Space Quest 3, Roger says a whole three words in it!
Valhalla 1/2/3 from the talky thread hasn't been re-mentioned yet. Never released but the demo version of Son of Zeus has speech when you die. "Forgive me father, I have FAAAAAAAAAAILED!". Always loved that. Super Methane Brothers. "Get a Move On Buddy". Xybots. "One Intruder destroyed. Intruder Alert". Super Skweek. "Welcome to Super Skweek" - followed by maybe some of the worst music in a commercial game ever to come out of an Amiga. Eh what else. Lotus hasn't been mentioned yet. "On Your Marks. Get Set. GO! Checkpoint!" The Chaos Engine has been mentioned. Didn't it have some sort of sequel/spin off? Hm. When I try to remember it all I see is a dark void and a lot of sadness. Friggin' Elvira Mistress of the Dark. Like nails on a chalkboard that one but you can't help but feel perplexed when she first starts... talking. Tanx. "All Guns Commence Firing!" Brat. Terrible game, cool intro. Bart VS the Space Mutants. So-so game, cool intro. Does It Came From The Desert count, the opening crawl? It was bitcrushed to hell but it did sound really cool nonetheless. Last Ninja 3 never entertained me as a game but the game starts with the epic line "REAL hatred... is TIMELESS". It sets the tone. Unfortunately what follows is a weird illogical mess. Last edited by gimbal; 29 July 2023 at 01:52. |

Blood Money intro
wasn't there a few yelps of short speech in Global Gladiators too? Last edited by CCCP alert; 29 July 2023 at 03:26. |

Test Drive's "Game Over, man!" comes to mind. Was that sampled from Aliens?

Thanks TCD!
Targhan also has sampled grunts and oofs, not sure if they can be counted as speech though! |
