If enemy cars get bumped and take a short cut, they end up taking the lead. Happened to me on the 1st level of Hard. Oh well..

And.. you have to be mega randomly lucky with shop prices. after the 1st race on Hard I managed to upgrade armour, ram & engine to 3. other times, it can take up to level 3 or 4 to max out.
