if you have doubts about KingCon, you can try ViNCEd or Conman which are both such con replacements. maybe one of them works better.
If you want test latest ViNCEd you need an older version of it, which you can find in the zone ( VincEd368.lha and VincEd366.lha ).

Edit: above ViNCEd link was latest version for WB1.3 - final or (most) latest is ViNCEd 3.73.
