It's also best to use the hot air paint stripper gun on it's lowest setting, so that the component heats up gently, too high a setting can burn the PCB as Jope states above.
Too high a setting can also blow components out of place or off the board, not good!!
I have removed A600 main chips from an old board and chips from SIMMs with my trusty Black & Decker...
